Ramona and Haris are the two coolest looking dogs at the shelter yet they are both still sitting in their kennels waiting for their forever families to come adopt them! Ramona is the striped shepsky (Husky/German Shepherd) and is only a year old! She weighs about 60 pounds and has an energetic but respectful demeanor. She is very people oriented and sits at the very end of her kennel so she can people-watch (and hope that one of the people she sees will stop and say hi to her)! She walks well with Haris and does especially well with dogs that are not overly pushy towards her. Haris is the polka dotted black and white dog and is 11 months old, so still a puppy! He is a pittie mix and weighs about 50 pounds. Haris is a happy-go-lucky dog and definitely has some energy! He is a big fan of toys and loves to run around and play with other dogs. Both Romona and Haris would do well in active homes that can give them plenty of exercise. They seem well-socialized around people and other dogs, and are obviously both absolutely adorable! Clifford the cutest chocolate-colored pup is still waiting for his forever home! He came into the shelter as a stray two months ago and has been waiting to be adopted ever since! Clifford is 3 years old and is listed as a Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix. He is a big dog weighing in at about 85 pounds, though with some proper exercise he will likely slim down a bit! Clifford’s favorite thing to do is play fetch! When volunteers go to his kennel to take him for a walk, he pulls towards the agility yard because he knows that’s where the tennis balls are! He also does love going for walks and is big on sniffing. He likes to mosey around and stop to smell all the plants he passes. Clifford does not have the best kennel presence, which is likely why he hasn’t been adopted yet. He will bark in his kennel but is much more calm once he is outside! Clifford is a sweet dog and enjoys cuddling up and being pet, but he also does have an independent side and doesn’t seem to need to be around someone at all times. He is perfectly happy sniffing and exploring the yard by himself! Hi! My name is Bisky. I am a 2 year old Border Collie cross. I arrived at the shelter just after the 4th of July. I had likely panicked from the fireworks and got my self stuck in a fence. I injured myself and was brought to the shelter. Luckily, the nice folks here fixed me up - you can see the vet wrap around my paw. Anyway, I'm better enough now that I am ready to be adopted by new people. I am sweet and submissive. I will take any chance to flop over and show my belly. I would do great in almost any home. Now, remember I am a herder ( and likely have cattle dog in me too) so I may use those instincts and sometimes, especially with little kids, that is unwelcome. But if you have experience with herders as a family dog, then please come and get me. Or you have a pup that would like a new pal. I am ready to go! Olive is the definition of a ball dog! She absolutely LOVES playing fetch and is extremely fast when chasing down the tennis balls! Olive is one smart cookie and knows to drop the ball at your feet in order for you to throw it for her again. In fact, if you try to throw a different ball other than the one she brought for you, she won’t chase it and will wait for you to throw the ball she wants! She is so fun to take out into the agility yard and watch run around. This is great exercise and a perfect way for her to burn off some energy while she waits for an active family to come adopt her! Olive is 4 year old, 45 pound pittie/border collie mix that came into the shelter as a stray and was not redeemed. She is looking for a home that can give her plenty of exercise and wants to take her on all sorts of adventures! Olive is not the type of dog that relaxes and lounges all day. She would much rather go on a morning run and then play some fetch throughout the day! She is a great size to load up into the car and take hiking or to the beach too. This is the unfortunate reality of surrendering your dog to an animal shelter. Pudgy doesn’t understand why she is alone in a kennel without her family, but volunteers are working hard to ease her transition and help her get adopted soon! Purgy’s owners surrendered her due to not having time for her. They said that she is housebroken, good with cats, good with big and small dogs, and did well with the three children in the home (all under age 10). She really sounds like a special dog! On Sunday, a volunteer spent a good amount of time just sitting with Pudgy until she was able to leash her up. Since Pudgy does well with other dogs, she was joined by another adoptable dog, Mocha, on her walk to see if that made her feel more comfortable. They hit it off and went on a nice long walk together side by side! Pudgy is slowly opening up and becoming the playful dog her previous owners described. She is well mannered and knows sit, down, and come too! Pudgy is the cutest, cuddliest 3 year old boxer mix and is VERY eager to start her new life in her forever home. Are you seeing what I am seeing?? I am a beautiful, smart, fun girl and I am waiting here for you! I have been here a while because when I got here I was pretty shy. But you know what is really great? Everybody who works and volunteers here has been committed to helping me gain confidence and realize that the world is ok. I am a petit, 1 year old female German Shepherd mix. I came to the shelter from Grover Beach just after the 4th of July. Unfortunately, my people did not come here looking for me. Well, now is your chance. I am all the things you could want. I am beautiful, fun, I'm good with people, I am nice on a leash and I am un-reactive toward other dogs. Loky has been feeling very stressed at the shelter, so some of our amazing volunteers took him for an outing! Read below to hear how he did 🙂

Today my husband Chris and myself took Loky to Morro Bay. He was a bit apprehensive to jump in the car but once inside and reminded a couple times to stay in the back he settled in nicely. We strolled the Embarcadero which initially was a bit overwhelming for him. We went to a cafe for lunch and worked on table manners…we did have to remind him that our lunch wasn’t his lunch! He loves playing in his water bowl! We then headed over to Top Dog Coffee. He loved his puppachino and the love and affection from staff and some kids. The slower paced environment seemed to allow him to relax a bit more. We were amazed at how much more engaged and receptive he became with us in such a short period of time.
Loki is a smart, affectionate fella and someone who puts the time and energy to meet his needs will certainly be rewarded with a wonderful companion.

Benny may be slightly uncoordinated when it comes to playing fetch, but it just adds to his cuteness 😉Benny is a 5 year old, 60 pound low-rider pittie that is patiently awaiting his forever home! He has the cutest little waddle when he walks and loves to be pet and to snuggle up with everyone he meets! Benny enjoys going on walks but, due to his small nose and short stubby legs, he probably isn’t the best candidate to join you on strenuous hikes or long runs. But he still needs to get some daily exercise in! Benny obviously does enjoy playing fetch (or at least attempting to catch a tennis ball)! He is not a fan of the kennel life and would much prefer to be in a loving home. And then there were two! Toffee and Truffle are the remaining two puppies of the four that recently came into the shelter. Toffee is the smaller puppy and is listed as a 10 week old German shepherd mix. Truffle is the bigger, shy puppy in the back of the picture and is listed as a 15 week old Anatolian Shepherd mix. Both puppies are extremely sweet but a bit shy around people. They will run up to you to say hi but then run away if you reach out too fast towards them. They will need patient owners that can help socialize them and help them gain confidence! Toffee is a bit more outgoing than Truffle and likes to play with toys and run around. Truffle tends to hang out in the corner of the play yard, but is very interested in treats and will always come out if you have food with you! Anatolians are usually used as livestock guardian dogs and anyone interested in adopting Truffle should do some research on the breed before coming in to meet him. Both puppies are going to be big once full grown and should be adopted by someone that will love them when they are puppies AND when they are big adult dogs. Hi! My name is Amber. I am not sure what I am still doing here waiting for my new home! I have been here almost a month which in my estimation is a month too long! I am a two year old, female lab mix that was found in Nipomo and no one came here looking for me. I am the definition of an easy keeper. All I was want is snacks and belly rubs! I get along with people - adults and kids - I like other dogs, I am easy on the leash and I just want to be your best pal. I would be an excellent family dog or a great traveling companion OR??? 🌟Puppies!!!🌟

We have four beautiful puppies available today!! These cuties are mix-breed puppies likely to be large breed dogs. One of the pups looks to be a Anatolian and cattle dog mix. He is a shy guy ( you can see in his photo) that would love a live-stock protection dog big sibling to help gain some confidence and show him the ropes. . Ten year old Newton is in a wonderful foster home waiting to be adopted! Read below to hear how Newton is doing!

If you’re looking for a small, smart, laid back senior pup, Newton is the one. He’s house-broken, quiet, sleeps in his bed, is a good passenger on car rides, (which he loves), and is always up for walks. Can you ask for more? Newton likes playing with his doggie foster brother and has even visited Laguna Park Dog Park, where he gets along quite well with the other dogs. He hasn’t been around young children and while he likely won’t be aggressive towards them he also may not be their playful best friend. Despite his short little legs, Newton is up for long walks. Three mile hikes do not faze him! He does need to be on a leash though, because he tends to follow his nose. Having said that, he’s also shown a homing instinct to his current temporary surroundings, suggesting he’ll adapt himself to any good home.
