Prepping for Aiken

Last year, W***y went to Aiken and came back a grown up. This year I am actually going to be able to go down for a few days and I am very excited. My animals range from a going on 4 (how did that happen ??? wasn't he a kitten yesterday) cat to Mr. Titan dog who turns 11 on Tuesday. So technically, all of my pets are fully grown. However, some act more grown up than others. For instance, Bowser 100% has the personality of a kitten, or an angry little elf when he wants to be....

This hasn't been the longest I've been on hiatus, but I was trying to so hard to stay on top of this blog... and then I epically failed. In my defense, I did start my MBA this past fall and things seemed to get away from me. So here I am to update: W***y decided he needed lots of vet bills in January (another round of Alpha-2) and then had a very successful trip to Aiken in February....

W***y and I jumped an oxer today, so you could say this jumping thing is getting serious… even though it was only 18in off the ground. Huge thanks to Tori Dugie with Dragonfly Eventing for the fantastic lesson, and getting us past where I thought was possible even a year ago!

Although most days, it still doesn't feel like fall, there are some noticeable changes. First and foremost, W***y is growing a coat. I had the discussion with my trainer this past week about the possible need for him to be clipped this fall/winter (we managed to get away with no clip jobs last winter) because he is in so much work....

W***y had the saddle fitter come out today. Firstly, we try to keep his dressage saddle checked 2x a year, with his bone spur, we want to make sure everything fits just right. But, even more exciting, we had the opportunity to start looking at some jump saddles. W***y and I had a jump lesson with our trainer on Friday, and it was just about the most fun I've had with him in a very long time....

I have got to stop letting so much time rush by in between blog posts. It's really quite a terrible habit. But I have such good news to share, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to let you all know. In mid-May we had Simon Eades come for a clinic to my trainer's farm. W***y was already on-site (and he gets to permanently stay in full training!) and so I signed him up for both days....
