Snuffle balls are a wonderful enrichment activity for those rainy days when our walks are a little shorter or if you have a little hound that’s recovering from an injury or perhaps surgery and they can’t get out and about on their usual sniffari, great also for puppies to be treated with some snuffle ball time as they learn to become accustomed to their crate. Important information for those adopting a dachshund or any other breed of dog.

The 3/3/3 Rule is a guideline that outlines three stages of adjustment over the course of three days, three weeks, and three months. It’s designed to provide structure and patience during the initial period when your pet is acclimating to their new surroundings and forming bonds with their new family.

Lots of us may know about it regards to adopting a rescue but using this method with any new animal (yes cats too!) coming into your home (foster; adoption or buying from a reputable registered breeder) can set you up for success.. you have a lifetime, take it slow & build a strong foundation, there's no need to rush into doing all the things all at once.

First 3 Days: Acclimation

Focus: Allow the dog to decompress and adjust to their new environment.

Tips: Keep them in a quiet, comfortable space with their bed, food, water, and toys.

Patience: Don't overwhelm them with new experiences or people.

First 3 Weeks: Building Trust and Training

Focus: Start basic training, establish routines, and build a bond with your new dog.

Tips: Be consistent with training, use positive reinforcement, and ensure a safe and structured environment.

First 3 Months: Settling In and Thriving

Focus: Continue socialization, reinforce training, and allow the dog to settle into their new home.

Tips: Gradually introduce new experiences and people, and address any behavioral issues that may arise.

Additional Tips for Success

Patience is Key: Every pet is unique, and their adjustment timelines can vary. Be patient and allow them to progress at their own pace.

Positive Reinforcement: Use treats, praise, and affection to reward desired behaviours where appropriate. (Don't give unfettered rewards. that will only create unhealthy habits & behaviours)

This approach can reinforce positive habits and helps your pet feel secure in their new home.

Create a Safe Space: Designate a quiet and cosy spot where your pet can retreat when they need a break from stimulation.

Socialisation: Introduce your pet to new people, pets, and environments gradually and positively. Early socialisation is essential for their long-term well-being.

About to take joint health to another level with new range of joint supplements, starting our pack on the Joint Intense which promotes improved blood flow and tissue repair and then we will move onto Joint Everyday which again supports joint health and enhances mobility. With the health risks associated with the dachshund breed I am certainly always hoping to add extra support to try and reduce the risk of injury to their backs. We are in Bathurst this weekend attending some dog shows and taking in the sights around town, as always I’m very proud of my girls when I show them so I thought I’d share some photos from today. If you have spotted an extra red in the photos, good spotting! One handsome little man has come to stay with us for now. At this point I don’t know if it will be forever, it depends how he fits in with the rest of the pack.. he needed someone understanding for now so we are doing all we can to make him feel comfortable and welcome.♥️

It’s been so difficult to bring myself to write this post, knowing that my dachshund family is so loved on this platform is giving me the strength to do so. This past week has been difficult as we sadly lost a dearly loved member of the pack in an unfortunate accident. My natural instinct is to retrieve into myself and try and make sense of why things happen when they do so it’s hard to write this post, when I think about how much love and support this community has given me and my dachshund family I know it’s only right to share our sad news.I would do anything to have Blossom back in my arms. She was loved beyond words and a very much loved member of our family. Rest easy little Blossom, thank you for filling our hearts and home with happiness and unconditional, pure and endless love.

It’s no surprise how much I love the products from my favourite online store . My love for Helga’s designs started with her thoughtful approach and consideration to our breeds needs, in particular for me initially was the puppy snuggle sacks that I started adding to my puppy packs. Recently, I’ve loved using Helga’s hug me harnesses for my dachshunds when we are out and about on walks and car rides, I found them to be so gentle on my dachshunds and the consideration given to the breed specific design means no rashes or interference while walking.
