Tapinauchenius plumipes is a medium-sized arboreal species native to Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana, and Suriname. This species was previously known as Tapinauchenius violaceus within the hobby due to it’s complicated taxonomic history, with multiple specimens from various areas being described as their own species before all being synonymized with T. plumipes in Cifuentes, Y. & Bertani, R. This is a large species of arboreal Ornithoctoninae endemic to West Sulawesi, which originally entered the hobby in 2012 under the hobby name Cyriopagopus sp. 'hati hati’. On December 31st, 2024, they were finally formally described in Müller, S., et al. (2024) as Phormingochilus hatihati, making them the first species in the genus that is not endemic to Borneo. #spiders #tarantula #purpleearthtiger
