Marrvelous Pet Rescues - MPR is a nonprofit organization that works tirelessly to not only find homes for dogs, but the right home for each dog.
Joy Martin, a friend and mentor, is the President of MPR and has done an incredible job of building a passionate, driven, motivated team of people, to make a difference in the lives of so many dogs. They have created a community of people who are pouring all of themselves into rescue and it shows.
I wanted to take a moment and shine light on an amazing woman, Paola Lorona-Hermann. Paola is the Coordinator for Marrvelous Pet Rescue; which basically means, she wear many hats, all at once! Although she joined MPR less than a year ago, she has been making an impact since she took her position.
Meeting Paola for the first time, I knew she was special. I could feel her passion and determination in our first conversation. She had a different approach than coordinators I had worked with in the past. She was excited to collaborate with KPN for training services and get to work providing these dogs with resources that would help them find a home, and stay there! She was more than just talk, she took action. I have built more than just a working relationship with Paola, Iāve built a true friendship. The kind where we can send one emoji and we know exactly how the other one feels. Or send an 11 minute long voice memo to get things off our chest or talk through a crazy idea we have to help the dogs we love.
Paola is someone who refuses to take the easy road. She works exceptionally hard to advocate for those who canāt advocate for themselves. She doesnāt place dogs with people just to place them. She finds a connection, a fit, a home. She has tough conversations with families, if the dog they had their eye on might not be a good fit. And she leads families to dogs they may have over looked because see sheās the potential bond. She always has everyoneās best interest in mind. Sheās realistic. Sheās smart. Sheās in this for all the right reasons. This isnāt just a job title, this is her life. Rescue is what she was born to do.
This week, Marshall was adopted from Marrvelous after almost 4 years of waiting for the right home. He is a special boy, who needed a special family to accept him, love him and give him the life he deserves. Whether you are a Keys Local or support Marrvelous from afar, this was a huge win for not only Marshall, but everyone who has support this sweet boy, one way or another. We celebrated as a community, we felt a sense of relief and are completely overjoyed for Marshall and his forever family.
But, who we canāt forget, is the woman that poured her everything into finding Marshall a home. Paolaās day to day looks a lot different with Marshall not by her side. Not greeting her when she arrives every day, not being at her feet for long Zoom meetings, not bringing over his favorite toy and squeaking it loudly when sheās on an important call, not making her laugh with his charming personality.
Paola, in a sense, rehomed her dog this week. A dog she loved and adored. A dog she has created an incredible bond with.
Thatās the tough part about rescue. When you are involved for the right reasons, you love these dogs like your own. They are apart of your family. And although the ultimate goal was finally reached, itās still tough on those that love these dogs the most.
So if you see this amazing woman around or youād like to leave a comment, please do, and show her a little extra supported right now. Her heart itās exploding with happiness and feeling loss all at once. Youāll always be Marshallās momma, Paola! Heās just lucky enough to now have twoš©µš¾
