🌈🐾 Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue Weekly Recap 🐾🌈

It’s been another emotional and busy week here at the rescue:

💙 Emilio had his dental and is healing nicely. Unfortunately, when we tried to schedule his cataract surgery, the specialists required additional testing first — a chest x-ray and blood pressure check. These are unexpected expenses, but necessary to move forward with giving him the gift of sight.

💔 We had to say goodbye to our sweet Rosco. His past neglect and abuse finally caught up to him, and our vet told us it was time. Surrounded by Terri and David, he peacefully crossed over the rainbow bridge. Rest easy, sweet boy — until we meet again.

🐶 We also learned that Charlie is heartworm positive. He will be starting treatment soon, and as many of you know, this is a long and costly process.

💕 Prissy went in for another round of blood tests as we continue working with the vet to get her medications adjusted just right.

Running a rescue is full of joy, heartbreak, and unexpected medical costs. If you can help us continue to care for Emilio, Charlie, Prissy, and all of our seniors, we would be so grateful.

💔 We got some tough news yesterday about our fan favorite, Charlie. 💔

Our sweet little 1.5-year-old terrier–pug mix, full of energy and love, has tested heartworm positive. This has been a real blow for us—our rescue has been going strong for nearly 5 years, and until recently we’ve been fortunate to avoid this diagnosis. Now, in just a short time, we have two pups fighting heartworm disease: Layla and Charlie.

Heartworm treatment is not only expensive but also long and hard on the pups. They deserve every chance at living happy, healthy lives, and we are committed to getting them through this. But we can’t do it without you. ❤️

🎉 Adoption Announcement! 🎉

Sweet Hershey, our 15-year-young gentleman, has found his forever home! 🐾💙 Kimberly and her boy friend drove all the way from South Carolina to make him part of her family — and we couldn’t be happier for them both.

Hershey is in amazing hands. Kimberly is a vet tech and will be applying to vet school next fall. Fun fact: while attending The Citadel, she was in charge of caring for the school’s beloved mascot for all four years she was there! 🦴💂‍♂️

We also want to give a huge shout-out to Hershey’s foster mom, Dawn Marie, for all the love and care she gave him while he waited for his perfect match. ❤️

📢 Today is National Check the Chip Day📢 (Who knew there was such a day?)

Every year, thousands of lost pets never make it back home… not because they weren’t loved, but because they weren’t microchipped — or their chip wasn’t registered properly.

Here’s the truth:
🐾 A collar and tag can fall off. A microchip is permanent.
🐾 A microchip only works if it’s registered. If your info isn’t in the database, it’s just a number.
🐾 You should register with multiple companies. Did you know that microchip vendors don't share their information? And there is no universal database. You are not locked into just one vendor. If your pet’s chip is scanned, the more databases it’s in, the better the chance you’ll be contacted quickly.

Why register with multiple vendors?
✔ Different shelters and vets use different lookup systems.
✔ Some shelters limit the systems they check — meaning they could completely miss your registered microchip.
✔ If one database is down, another may still connect you to your pet.
✔ It’s extra insurance for your best friend’s safe return.

At Rainbow Bridge Hospice Rescue, we microchip all of our dogs and encourage all of our adopters to register their pet’s microchip with multiple vendors — because we never want one of our pups lost with no way home.

🌈 In Loving Memory of Rosco 🌈

Today, we had to say goodbye to our sweet Rosco. 💔

Rosco’s past was full of neglect and abuse — pain no dog should ever have to endure. We worked hard to give him the love, care, and safety he deserved, but sadly, the toll of his past caught up to him.

The vet told us it was time to let him go. Surrounded by David and Terri, Rosco crossed peacefully over the Rainbow Bridge, finally free from all pain and fear.

Even as a hospice rescue, these decisions never get easier. Every dog takes a piece of our hearts with them. But we find comfort in knowing that, in the end, Rosco knew love, gentleness, and dignity. ❤️

Update on the Two Senior Yorkies 🐾💔

We’ve received so many kind inquiries about the two senior Yorkies whose owner had planned to euthanize them before leaving on a cruise. Unfortunately, we do not have them.

When the owner left them with a groomer, she never signed the surrender paperwork. A few days later, she returned and demanded their return. Legally, the groomer had no other choice. Maybe she had a change of heart? But beyond that, we do not know their current status.

We truly wish we had a better update to share. If we hear more, we will keep you posted.

🐾 Layla Update 🐾

Sweet Layla had her follow-up vet appointment, and we are so happy to share that she is healing beautifully from her hernia repair and spay! 💕

The vet is starting her on a 30-day antibiotic regimen to make sure she’s in the best shape possible. Once she’s finished that course, we’ll begin the next big step in her journey — heartworm treatment.

Heartworm treatment is costly but absolutely essential to give Layla the healthy, happy life she deserves. If you’d like to help us cover her ongoing care and medical expenses, every single dollar makes a difference. 🩷

🎉 Biscuit Has Been Adopted! 🎉

This one is extra special. ❤️

Biscuit came to us from a rescue in Virginia that sadly had to close its doors. On paper, he was a young, AKC-registered Rat Terrier… but in real life? Well, let’s just say he had a bit of a reputation — more “Rat Terrorist” than Terrier. 😅

Biscuit’s big personality came with some aggression issues, but we believed there was a perfect match out there for him — someone with patience, experience, and a whole lot of love.

And we found them. 💛

His new family understands his challenges and is committed to helping him work through them. We know it won’t always be easy, but we also know Biscuit is finally where he belongs — in a home where he is safe, understood, and truly loved.

Here’s to Biscuit’s fresh start and many happy (and hopefully well-behaved 😉) years ahead.

🐾 A Message from Emilio 🐾

Hi friends, it’s me… Emilio. ❤️

I heard my rescue family say we’re 17% to our goal for my eye surgery — and my tail is wagging so hard because that means you care about me.

This week, I’m going to the vet for my dental procedure. My mouth has a lot of infection, and the doctors say we have to fix that first before they can touch my eyes. After my dental, I’ll wait 3 weeks… just to be sure all the yucky infection is gone. Then we can schedule my eye surgery so I can finally be comfortable again.

I know I’m just one little senior pup, but to me, this surgery means everything. I can’t make this happen without you. Every single dollar you give brings me closer to me regaining my eyesight again.
