Lil' Bayou Yorkies I LOVE YORKSHIRE TERRIERS. You can never have just one Yorkie. We are located in the bayou state, Louisiana.

I love their terrier attitudes, their tendency to be very co-dependent of their 'person' and even the fact I will never be allowed any privacy if my Yorks have anthing to say about it. Better know for Mardi Gras and our good ol' cajun, creole cuisine. Here in the Sportman's Paradise our happiness isn't found in hunting or fishing. Although those are fun things to do, our true happiness is found in our Yorkshire Terriers.

We like to have a labor and delivery plan in place for our expecting moms.

They have multiple ultrasounds throughout pregnancy to monitor puppy development, fetal heart rates, internal organs including GI motility. Having progesterones done during estrus helps to know when ovulation occurs, ideal breeding time, and predict the whelping date.

The week before their expected due date radiographs are done primarily to measure pelvis to fetal skull ratio. The ultrasounds have provided a great tool for puppy counts during this time. Radiographs assist in determining if natural labor can occur or a standby cesarian is warranted.

We also use progesterone or ‘reserve’ progesterones to pinpoint active delivery. Progesterone is needed to maintain pregnancy and drops prior to labor. Levels of 2.0 ng/ml you can expect labor within 48-24hrs and levels below 1.0 ng/ml you are within a 24hr window of active labor. Body temperature will usually drop during this time and mom will actively start nesting behaviors. For most of ours, this is lots of digging, fluffing and moving their blankets as well as protective behavior. They no longer want our other Yorks close to their whelping area and prefer only us, their humans, nearby.

During active delivery we are directly monitoring mom, throughout her labor and delivery of her puppies. If medical or surgical intervention is needed, we are right by her side to take immediate action.

Not sure about ya’ll, but it’s HOT down here in the Bayou state.

Gemi and Londynn say ‘Get the AC cranked up Mom; we only like the heat when we have pool access’.

Promise you these divas had the AC vents blowing right on them and the seat set to the coolest temperature on the way home. I always start and pre-cool the car before loading our Yorks.

Remember your pups don’t sweat AND they naturally run core body temperatures higher than ours; so ALWAYS keep their safety in mind during warmer weather. Plan ahead, be cautious and never leave them unattended as even a few minutes count. Heat strokes and burned paws are very real and can have devastating consequences.

Aren’t Key and Sy absolutely adorable?

They are siblings with some of the best personalities. Both are black Merles. Key’ara is a KBKB minimal black Merle. Sylas is also a black Merle; yet he sports more gray or silver in his coat as well as blue 💎 s in his eyes.

We are a bit late in making this post, but we would like to extend our gratitude to Louisiana Labradors for making it possible for us to finally go on a family vacation. It’s not often that you can leave your fur babies and rest assured they were well taken care of and showered with love. There’s an entire York manual that comes into play with our York crew. 😉 our Yorks were known by their individual names at the first meet and greet; as well as each of their quirky personalities were pinpointed almost immediately. We were sent pictures and videos of them playing and showing off their little co-dependent stalker tendencies. Yes, we have several attention 🐷 s, but every single one of them crave human interaction. Yorks are social highlights and enjoy play time with their furry companions, especially when their humans are not there.

Thank you Louisiana Labradors SO VERY much for taking care of our York pack. You are ‘pack leader’ in our 📕 any day.

whether it be to hunt, travel, compete, run trials, therapy canine and/or just enjoy their company take a 👀 at Louisiana Labradors.
They even have a canine nutritionist.

Genetic health testing and OFA certification should the gold standard in any program; titles and therapy certifications/clearances are great characteristics to have and produce for future families.

Canines that are driven to co-exist, love and form a deep connection with their person/ people....the human animal bond is such an amazing thing. We should be honored as humans to know the unconditional love of a devoted canine.

We are hoping to produce some nice brindles in the near future.

We are science peps and what do we like more than science….besides animals of course? Proof is like icing on the cake for us.

Did you know there is not currently a lab in the USA that will definitively identify kbr? The US labs report out as KB/ky or KB/n. It takes further analysis to determine for sure the dog is kbr/ky or kbr/n instead of just being KB.

Yes, our Ra’Vyn sports the visual heavy brindle pattern; but we wanted the DNA proof and offspring probability. We used Laboklin UK to determine if our KB/ky Embark results were KB or kbr.

We are excited to share that we officially have confirmed kbr/ky Yorks! It takes a while for the results to be reported out and the shipping / customs process is pricey; but, our overall experience with Laboklin UK was great. They were responsive and very helpful throughout the entire process.

Now stay tuned for our upcoming ‘brindle’ surprise……. 🤐
