Two years ago, Greenwood and Aeracura welcomed the most perfect singleton into the world. That’s not the beginning of the story, though. You see, this puppy was about a year and a half in planning and vet visits and swapping dogs to make sure the parents were together when they needed to be. This was a labor of love that Michelle and I undertook together because we knew this dog was worth it.

He is confident, happy, goofy, intelligent, driven, and a friend to all. He is able to work out solutions to problems quickly, he is resilient to new experiences (like swimming and jumping into the water), and he is just always down for any adventure. He is gorgeous, too, and so… so soft.

Not only was I lucky enough to help bring this gorgeous dog into the world, but I have the absolute joy of watching him grow up and be so close to me so I can just drive over to his house whenever I miss him. Beyond that, I also got to place him with one of my very best friends and watch them absolutely thrive together. All Michelle, Tyler, and I did was give Kaylie the raw materials of a great dog, and Kaylie turned him into this amazing boy that we all get to be so proud of every single day.

To say Pocus set the bar incredibly high for our program is an understatement. He will always be the gold standard of temperament for us, and the fact that he’s just so pretty on top of it was icing on the cake. Happy happy birthday, you hilariously endearing lad. I know you’re gonna be hella spoiled, as you should. 🫶🏻

Hello, friends!

As you may know, we were part of the recent charge to BAER test spotted and higher white puppies with other wonderful breeders. We knew we wanted to BAER test when we embarked upon this journey with the Gryffyn Aeyrie dogs and we’re happy to add more data to the pool!

We tested all 7 puppies and 6/7 had full hearing. Red collar boy (affectionately nicknamed Skillet for now) is unilaterally deaf in his right ear. Unilaterally deaf means he still has full hearing in one ear. We’ve actually suspected this for a couple weeks now and I mentioned it to the tester. A friend on our discord server asked what signs we noticed that made us suspect Skillet was unilaterally deaf, and I want to preface this: I was on high alert for any signs of hearing abnormalities because of the high white in the parents, so I was examining these puppies constantly.

First, Skillet didn’t startle like his siblings when their ears first opened. That can be attributed to his ears opening late, absolutely, but he also had a really hard time locating where a sound was originating from. He’d stand in a corner of the whelping box and tilt his head and listen so extra hard and then he’d flip around and run the correct direction of the sound. This happened for about two weeks and then dissipated. He’s clearly figured out how to navigate the world with one ear and it hasn’t slowed him down at all… I assure you 💀

I wanted to get information from the testers and get pictures and video to show the process, in case anyone was curious! The first seven pictures are BAER results for Skillet and the rest of the puppies so you can compare. The audiologist explained that the peak and valley in blue is the left ear hearing and the same peak and valley in red is the right ear hearing. As you can see, all the puppies have both peaks and valleys in both ears. Skillet only has them in his left ear; right ear shows more of a straight line with slight dips and increases but not the peak and valley, which indicates he does not have hearing.

The next picture shows how they held the puppies to insert the needles and then throughout the test. The needles are tiny acupuncture needles and none of the puppies even noticed let alone fussed about it. They inserted one behind each ear and one on top of the head. The last picture shows the one on top of Skillet’s head. After they insert the needles, they put a little ear bud tube down in each ear canal for the puppies to listen for a clicking noise and that’s what’s recorded in the BAER test results. The video nested in the comments shows the little ear bud type device and how they put it in the ear canal.

Once all the puppies have registered names and numbers, results will be submitted to OFA as their first health test! Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever. 🫶🏻

Aelin and Pocus are currently in the top 20 for ASFA for the year. We’re sure standings will shift before the end of the year, but we’re proud of both of them for doing their thing 🫶🏻

Greenwood and Satara are so proud and delighted to announce our co-bred litter. We had 4 beautiful girls and 3 gorgeous boys arrive home with us today.

The litter theme is “Found in Translation.” Obscure, beautiful feelings in other languages.

More updates to come! Right now we’re just loving on the puppies and mama dog. Cuddles is doing so well as a mother, I couldn’t be more thrilled with how fast she took to the babies.

Happy to announce a cobred litter between Greenwood and Satara! With a huge thank you to Gryffyn’s Aeyrie.

Cruise and Cuddles are both incredibly special silkens and we are so excited to meet their lovely puppies! Cruise is an ISWS CH and UKC CH and a loving, gentle soul. He enjoys snuggling with Pardner, grooming Pocus, and singing for the household when he gets excited.

Cuddles is a finished UKC CH and GRC. She is also ASFA pointed. She is so sweet and a friend to everyone she meets. Usually she’s very go with the flow, but she’s locked in once she steps foot on the field.

In this pairing we hope to create beautiful, balanced movers who are handler-focused and able to explore with you. We hope for sporty babies we can do all the fun things with and we hope for some of the happiest, silliest silkens around.

This weekend I traveled down with Aelin and Cuddles to Arizona to run in ASFA to try and secure the rest of the points Aelin needed.

Saturday was an interesting day 😂 Aelin and Captain cut sharply into the field and managed to get back on the lure and qualify for finals, then Aelin ran one of the best runs of her life and got an 80 on her final run… she is the definition of “keep them on their toes.” She took third (out of four) in Open. Cuddles ran beautifully all day long. Her take offs from the start line were fast and enthusiastic and she went AFTER those plastic bunnies. She got second on Open and I’m proud of her.

On Sunday, Cuddles had the unfortunate luck of having the line snap twice halfway through her runs but her final preliminary run was amazing. She started out strong for her final run and then 70% through the course decided she wanted the entire trial’s attention while she did her business. 😂 Cuddles secured more points towards her field championship this weekend and I’m proud of her for being so focused on the lure. Aelin really got into her stride and ran her heart out. She was tied for first with her amazing littermate Howard (Aeracura We’re All Mad Here) and we wrapped the Open run-off and the BOB run into one run so the dogs wouldn’t have to run a fourth time. She ran incredibly well the first 90% of the course and then lost it on the last 10% and that definitely cost her. She came off the field with 3 ripped paw pads and bouncing for another run.

Pocus, cobred with Aeracura, and Kaylie went with us down to AZ and Pocus ran in Singles one last weekend because he certified on Saturday afternoon 😎 Aelin helped with the cert run because she hadn’t had enough yet. Pocus was the highest scoring silken in the trial on Saturday, scoring an 80 and an 81 on his two runs for the day. A bird was on the ground next to the line and took off right next to Pokey as he passed to get the bags and he remained focused on his run. His focus and drive is off the charts and I am so excited to watch him dominate the field in 2025.

The main goal of this weekend was to accomplish one specific thing. So, without further ado, I am overjoyed and so damn proud to introduce…

UKC CH Aeracura Curiouser & Curiouser FCh

Greenwood’s first dual-titled champion but definitely not the last. A huge thank you to her co-owner and breeder Michelle Smith for getting her started on her journey on the field and for cheering us along every trial along the way. We did it. 🥰

Aelin won Best of Breed at the ASFA trial on Saturday and Best of Breed at the regional ASFA invitational on Sunday!!!

Saturday-
Aelin’s first run was incredible but it didn’t feel like she was putting on the full gas. Then her second run she ran her absolute heart out. She stayed right on the lure (after a tiny overshoot at the beginning) and got her bunny.

She ran off for Best in Field (against 5 other amazing breeds, 2 runs of 3 dogs) and an incredible powerhouse whippet took it. The judges told me after the awards that Aelin was unofficial second place for Best in Field. My heart exploded with joy. They gave me some lovely feedback about her as well.

Sunday-
I could cry from how proud I am of my little girl. She ran so beautifully today and was on the lure like a beast. She had to run against another silken for the breed run-off because they were tied all day, but she managed to squeak by with 1 more point to take the breed ribbon.

We rested her for awhile after the breed run-off to make sure she was feeling good for the Best of Field run-off. She was running beautifully and then took a turn and immediately started trotting so I knew something was wrong. She skinned almost her entire stop pad off on her right front leg, which killed her chances for BIF, but I’m just so glad it’s a pretty superficial injury that she can heal from without an ER visit!

I could not be more in love with this dog if I tried. She is truly my “do it all” dog and she would do anything with me. She is everything I wanted in a dog without realizing I wanted it. Thank you for trusting me with this perfect little creature Michelle and for helping and cheering her on at every step of this journey. Our girl is going to be a field champion this year… I can just feel it.

Also a HUGE shoutout to my husband and cobreeder Tyler for braving every event with a big smile and a helpful hand for all the other dog owners. You’re incredible.
