MEASURING at UKA
With shows now moving out of the COVID compliant structure and the "launch" of our new scoring system for UKA shows, there will be a fundamental change to measuring in relation to your first run.
We have always tried to be flexible and reasonable at UKA and allow dogs to get measured at their first show. Previous scoring systems have allowed people to run without a measure, (in case measuring occurred after the class started at 8.30am).
Throughout British Agility there is a trust system that people do follow measuring rules but it appears, unfortunately, that many competitors have taken advantage of this and have never had their dogs measured. The new UKA system, we believe, is the only scoring system in British Agility, at any organisation, that polices measuring. We believe this is a big step forward for Agility and will prevent handlers running at the wrong height, accidentally or not.
We are hoping to continue being customer friendly by allowing people to measure on the day, however we are going to become stricter and insist that dogs are measured before they run.
We are therefore strongly recommending people gain their measure before their first show with that dog and will be encouraging weekend shows to run evening measuring sessions so dogs can be measured the day before. Shows will be asked to start measuring sessions before the rings commence BUT handlers who rely on getting a measure on the day of their first show will need to accept the risk of missing potential runs without refund.
In 2021, measuring is still free at UKA and included in your registration and we hope this will resolve the issue without the rules having to be more restrictive on time scale.
