Thank you all for your donations, your prayers & your shares for Sassy & his fight with heart worm disease.

This morning we received a call from Tufts that Sassy had a remarkable night & they were proceeding with surgery within the next few hours. We didn’t get an update until the afternoon. Each minute that passed waiting on that call felt like an eternity. Was he ok? Were there any complications? Was yesterday the last time we’d see our friend?

Around 1:30pm we received another call from Tufts that the surgery was a SUCCESS! They were able to retrieve 3 adult heart worms fully intact. Sassy was awake & chowing down on food as if nothing occurred. The OR was packed with observers getting in on the excitement of a successful procedure in a feline with Caval Syndrome.

We have no words to express the way we feel that Sassy pulled through this surgery. Tears of joy flowed heavily. Our boy gets a shot at a forever home once again & it just might be coming sooner than he has ever expected… ❤️

Sassy has officially been admitted into Tufts & likely getting his surgery TOMORROW!

Please, pray for our boy. It’s grim if we do nothing and risky if we do something. The odds are 50/50 - with surgery, at least Sassy has a chance to come out on the other side. We owe this to him.

Please, please, pray for Sassy.

📣 IT’S GO TIME! 📣

Sassy was rechecked by his doctor this afternoon & we are SO happy to report he lost TWO pounds worth of fluid & they could clearly see his heart on Xray!

His doctor said the window of time for heart worm removal surgery is NOW! This is our shot!

Between tonight or tomorrow, Sassy will be on his way to Tufts in Massachusetts for LIFESAVING surgery- this is his chance!

We were given a quote of $7,000-$10,000 for this procedure. Please help us help Sassy!

Hey folks - we caught wind of a scammer on Venmo trying to impersonate us. This is our ONLY Venmo account. It is verified with a black cat profile photo & listed under charities.

Unfortunately there were a handful of donations that went to the scam artist. Please double check that your donation went to the right place & report if it did not. We are working on reporting the scam account.

Thank you. 🫤

The heartbreaking news just continues…

It has been confirmed by ultrasound & lab work that Sassy is suffering from a heart worm infection. It has compromised his heart function & he was placed on cardiac meds to try to restore his mechanics as close to baseline as possible so that he can be stable for LIFESAVING surgery.

There is currently NO approved treatment for heart worm infection cats & majority are able to fight them off on their own. Unfortunately for Sassy, he is in the minority of infected cats & MUST get them removed from his heart - this procedure is only done at Tufts in Massachusetts. The estimate for cost we are looking at to save Sassy is $7,000-$10,000. We are begging you, please HELP us save Sassy. He has been with us for 2 years, he is immensely loved by rescue volunteers & cafe staff. He called the cat cafe home for the past 2 years. We want nothing more than Sassy’s final chapter to be in a home of his own & cannot sit back to watch his demise.

Please share, please help us help Sassy. We are devastated.

Sweet Ollie is on his way home to rest & recover. Check out what was removed from his intestines.. that tiny piece of foam caused our buddy a great deal of pain & suffering.

Please make sure to ALWAYS keep choking hazards out of reach from cats - they are very curious creatures especially when they are young. Foreign body obstructions can be fatal in cats if left untreated. By a miracle our new friend kept himself alive at just 4 lbs..

Please consider a donation to help offset the cost of Ollie’s lifesaving surgery.

What devastating news this week has given to us.

Sassy has been with our rescue for 2 YEARS. For 2 years this beautiful, loving boy has been living in a shelter setting waiting for someone to come along & love him the way we love him. For 2 years he has watched over 100 cats move on while he stayed behind hoping the next time would be his turn.

We’ve noticed that Sassy began to get a “ballooning” appearance in his abdomen & sought care to ease our minds incase he was just getting chunky. Sassy has gained over 1 lb in fluid & his medical team pulled out syringes of straw colored fluid from his chest tap. This is heartbreaking to know there may be a possibility of an irreversible illness & Sassy may not get the chance of feeling the love of his own family after waiting so long in the system.

Sassy is currently on the way to get an emergent echo to see if his issues are heart related. He was already started on a diuretic preemptively. Once we figure out what exactly is wrong with him, there is a possibility we may have to move Sassy into our Resident Cat Program. We want him to know what a loving family is like incase his prognosis is grim.

If you’ve read this far, please share Sassy & consider a donation to help offset the costs of his continued care. Our medical bills our rising but we still have a duty to give the best care possible to our cats.

Yesterday was such a crazy day for us & especially for our new friend Ollie. We got the news that Ollie had a foreign body obstruction & needed emergency surgery. Ollie only weighs roughly 4 lbs & it is suspected that he had this obstruction for a long time.

Ollie was stabilized at the ER & transferred over to our vet who immediately accepted his case. Surgery went well & his doctor removed what appeared to be a piece of a Nerf gun. He was monitored overnight for any complications & is spending the day at the hospital in hopes to be discharged this evening.

If Ollie waited any longer to find help, the odds would have been much worse. We are so fortunate to have gotten to him in time & for his medical team who provided swift care to save his life.

Please consider a donation towards Ollie’s life saving efforts.

PLEASE HELP OLLIE

A Good Samaritan reached out to animal control reporting a cat walking into their hallway emaciated & vomiting. Based on the report the care seemed too in-depth for a municipality so the person was seeking help all day yesterday for this cat.

Late last night we caught wind of this - were able to have him surrendered & brought to the ER to be stabilized. Upon examination, Ollie thankfully does not have a blockage but they noticed some granular material in his abdomen like he was eating “something” & his kidney values are a bit off based on what’s going on with him. The low end of the estimate was needed as a deposit to hospitalize him.

Please consider a donation towards Ollie to help offset this cost as it has the potential to creep up to the high end of the estimate given.

📢 FRIENDLY CATS DO NOT BELONG OUTSIDE📢

This is TNR 101 -the simplest of tasks when tackling a trap, neuter, return project. Last night we took in this beautiful boy, whose feeder crowned him the name Moe. We knew Moe was on the older side & may have some age related problems, but we did not expect Moe to completely crash overnight.

We later on found out that Moe was neutered by another organization who wouldn’t come back to save him knowing he was friendly. The feeder had contacted us in hopes to find placement for Moe so his days outside were no more. Again, FRIENDLY CATS DO NOT BELONG BACK OUTSIDE. This morning, we learned that Moe had a massive abdominal tumor confirmed by xray, an enlarged heart & evidence of a chronic pulmonary disease. These issues compounded eachother & lead to Moe crashing so quickly. We were left with no options besides allowing Moe to cross with dignity. He was inside, he was warm & he no longer had to suffer.

Too many times it is our volunteers who are left to make decisions for cats who were wronged by others who were supposed to help them. A feeder is beside herself & all we can do is offer her a paw print of her friend who once was. We are tired of this. Please for the love of God - keep friendly cats indoors.

I’m sorry we were late Moe, be free. 🤍
