🎉🥳🥳🎉
If you look carefully, you can see why Im SO excited.
Koda is very reactive on walks, people and dogs.
In this video, there's two giant breed dogs on just the other side of the road.
He looks but DISENGAGED!
When dealing with reactivity due to fear, Its hard, exhausting and takes a lot of time. We can sometimes underestimate how difficult this can be for our dogs.
To them, this is life treating. It's straight panic. This is a REAL emotional response.
Because it's something that literally takes over them, it takes a long time to change the way they feel or perceive the threat.
This isn't over night.
We had some reactivity during our session. We can't always control the environment. But we also had some HUGE wins.
Look at her. She went into a down and was able to keep her cool.
We got there!
Meet Daisy.
When we first met, I couldn't look at her or even talk to her owner. She would lunge bark growl and even show teeth. Extremely fearful. Lack of confidence.
I've worked at building her trust. Changing her emotional response. Now we can help her owner move forward with training.
I will not come into their home and tell them what to do, if they show me signs of discomfort or aggression. I will build that trust first.
P.s! You've seen videos of how well she's doing. On this walk we had a big dog barking at us. Two men in their driveway talking and laughing. A huge ride on lawn mower. And she stayed calm! 🥰
GUS!! Seeing her happy on the walk is everything to me 🥰
This girl had a very hard time on the leash. Pulling, lunging and extremely reactive to dogs. Now look!!
Video sent from my client :
"I had to document this was the last 10-15 mins of our walk almost the entire time🤩"
Look at that.
Why start inside? Because if your dog is fearful outside and or extremely distracted, it would be pleasant.
Let's show them in an easy environment .
We teach leash pressure, eye contact and some clients do like the heel position.
Stay turned for part two outside.
Loose leash and sniff party!
Ioose leash and sniff party 🥳
Would you believe this pup wouldn't step foot in her crate. She didn't even like putting her head in there!
Now look!!
And she will stay in there until mom gives the release cue. So proud 👏!
Oh... if he only knew lol
If you know me, i dont want my dog in s perfect heel. I want my dog to enjoy the walk and sniff. I worked with each dog individually and together.
Look at this! Amazing job 👏
And yes they pulled. Yes, they didn't love being apart or walking together lol
You lost me.
A little more info :
The dog who is reacting, whether that be emotional distress or emotional hyper arousal. It's all emotional!!
Which means the back of their brain is working, which typically means no learning will take place, not much logic is going on.
The poor dog, knows what your asking and they cant give it to you. How heart breaking.
The emotional response is SO high, they can't give you what they want. The rush of hormones is too high.
Instead of feeling frustrated or angry.
Feel compassion. " Your dog isn't giving you a hard time, its having a hard time"
Exposure therapy: May work for some.. but why risk it? Why risk giving the dog more emotional stress to carry.
Correction: In what world is a negative response to emotional distress ever the answer? How does that even make sense?
Your adding fuel to the burning building.
Kindness grows confidence
Before our training session. This little ham would freak people out with him being over their heads. And that bark is pretty intimidating.
