Because the truth is, we walk into this bond with our eyes wide open, knowing exactly how it will eventually break us.
We are fully aware that their lives are measured in short, fleeting years while ours stretch on. We know that the price of their perfect, unwavering devotion is a debt we will one day have to pay in grief. And yet, without a second thought, we open our hearts and let them in.
Why We Choose the Heartbreak:
The Sacred Routine: We choose the rhythmic thud of a wagging tail against the floor, the cold nose nudges, and the way they seem to know exactly when we’ve had a bad day.
The Purest Connection: We choose the only relationship on earth that is entirely free of ego, judgment, or conditions.
The Living Legacy: We choose to have our lives permanently altered by a creature that can't speak a word but teaches us everything about loyalty.
We accept the "inevitable goodbye" because the "everyday hello" is the most beautiful thing we've ever known. We take the bargain—ten or fifteen years of pure, radiant light in exchange for a season of darkness—because a life without that light is no life at all.
