Some Clarification as we learn more and more about Space X

SPACE X & THE 125,000 ACRES: WHAT DOES “BUFFER” REALLY MEAN?

There’s been a lot of discussion about SpaceX’s plans for the roughly 125,000 acres of former Exxon property in coastal Vermilion Parish — including talk of developing only a portion of the property and leaving large areas for wildlife and wetlands.

That sounds encouraging, but there’s an important distinction to make.

The 125,000 acres is the larger property footprint. It does NOT mean 125,000 acres will be covered in launch pads, buildings and infrastructure. Current discussions indicate that development would occur on only a portion of the property, with large areas remaining undeveloped.

But “undeveloped,” “wildlife habitat,” “restoration area,” and “legally protected buffer zone” are not necessarily the same thing.

SpaceX has discussed working with Louisiana agencies on habitat restoration, marsh protection, wildlife impacts and long-term management of the property. But the exact boundaries, acreage and legal protections of any wildlife or buffer areas still need to be clearly defined.

That matters.

Because before we celebrate an “85,000-acre buffer,” for example, we need to know:

Where exactly is it? What is legally protected? Who manages it? What activities are allowed there? And can those boundaries change in the future?

There’s nothing wrong with asking these questions.

If this project is going to coexist with some of Louisiana’s most important coastal wetlands and wildlife habitat, we should know exactly where the development ends — and where the protections begin.

🐣 OUR BREEDING PROGRAM IS GETTING BETTER EVERY YEAR! 🐣

We are SO excited about this hatching season!

Every year we learn more, improve our breeding selections, and work toward producing beautiful, healthy Black Copper Marans with those rich, dark chocolate-colored eggs we love so much. And also Blue copper Marans.

Our breeding program continues to produce:
Beautiful birds with great type 🐓
🥚 Darker and more consistent egg color 🥚
🐣 Strong, healthy 🐥 chicks
And Carefully selected breeding lines

It’s incredibly rewarding to see the progress from year to year — and this season is looking especially promising!

If you’ve been wanting to add Black or Blue Copper Marans to your flock, now is the time to get on our list.

🐣 We are currently taking orders for chicks!
Located in Youngsville!
We can plan to meet in Lafayette, Alexandria, Winnfield, Baton Rouge or Covington.

At Triple B Farms, we’re not just hatching chicks — we’re working year after year to improve our flock and preserve what makes these birds so special.

Whooping crane project

Since the whooping crane reintroduction program began, juvenile cranes have been released mainly at the White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area in Vermilion Parish, but also at the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge in Vermilion and Cameron parishes, for several years before hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020.

Of course, birds being birds, once released, the cranes have explored and spent time in 37 of the state's 64 parishes. Many of the exploratory movements are by young birds and are short in duration, with most of the population settling in and establishing territories in the south central and southwest parishes.
