Five Things I Do With Our Trained Puppies Every Single Day
1. Morning tie-outs on 8’ cables while I sanitize crates.
This allows me—one person managing all training and care—to safely give each puppy structure and consistency. It reinforces leash manners first thing in the morning and teaches them to potty on-leash, which is a huge skill for their new homes.
2. A 5–10 minute play break after tie-outs.
Once crates are clean, they get to run, play, and get the early-morning zoomies out. This helps them burn off that fresh energy so they’re ready to focus during training sessions.
3. Hand-feeding their kibble during training.
Their first cup of kibble is used as reward-based training. We practice sits, downs, come, and place—turning their breakfast into something that builds engagement, manners, and confidence.
4. Feeding the last cup in their crates.
Their second cup of food is given inside the crate. This keeps crate time positive, builds calmness, and helps them settle quickly in their new homes.
5. Daily place-work while I do normal life tasks.
I use back-tied place training by looping the leash through the wall eyelet. This lets them learn to stay on their place bed while I move around doing dishes, helping kids, and handling the everyday chaos. It naturally teaches impulse control and how to stay settled outside of structured training sessions.
