A huge thank you to the generous donor who paid for adoption fees during Clear the Shelters Month! Because of their incredible support, the Mtn Shelter Adoption Center processed 73 adoptions in August. That's 49 cats and 24 dogs who found their forever homes! We are celebrating this amazing success and the lives forever changed.

At the same time, some Real Talk. While we are celebrating, we also need to share some sobering numbers. During August, we took in 60 animals - 36 cats and 24 dogs - who were stray, abandoned, or surrendered. Our Adoption Center is full, and our waiting list for intake is still very long. Our region is facing a crisis of animal overpopulation, and we can’t do this work without you.

We need your help! By volunteering, donating, or otherwise getting involved, you can help us continue to provide food, shelter, care, and a forever home for every animal that comes through our doors. Links to help in the comments!

Porchfest 2025 Porchfest will take place on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1 pm - 5 pm. The event will span from Cable's Gallery (1055 Main Street) to The Fix (1159 Main Street). Jenny, our 10+ year old girl who was stolen/lost in Florida and dumped in our north Georgia mountains, living her best life yet in long term foster. With her foster brother Benton! You remember Ben/Benny/Sir Benton - he too, is living his best life ever!

What an amazing summer! We're so grateful to Mountain Valley Country Store in Hayesville for hosting a Mountain Shelter Adoption Center donation jar. When we picked it up, it was almost full!
We especially want to thank their incredible staff, who, when customers say "keep the change," brilliantly offer to put it in our jar! This simple act truly "saves lives," as the jar says. Thank you for your creative generosity and for being such a wonderful community partner!

This is the best news ever!!! Time for a new profile picture as our boy Leo has a new forever family!!! 💗😀💗

GUESS WHAT HAPPENED AT THE SHELTER YESTERDAY ??
Our super handsome Leo got adopted. Why am I screaming this? Because Leo had been with us since September 2023. The staff is going to miss him dearly, but we are all so thrilled that he finally has a home.❤️❤️

Puppy Love 🥰

Come adopt one of these cuties this upcoming Saturday, February 8 from 11-2!

Are you coming to Wendy's Puppy Party II? I will be there and so will these 5 lovable 6.5 month old Catahoula/Lab/Pyrenees mix puppies. They are in the midst of their Core Puppy Vaccine series, and will be spayed & neutered at the appropriate age. That is no cost to you except the adoption fee, and it is a good deal as the adoption fee doesn't even begin to cover those actual expenses.

Millie & Lulu are known as the twins, Elsie the Inquisitive, Raven aims to please and Remi is the timid little boy - must be because he is in a home with all those girls. All these kids love toys & treats and are ready to bond with you. They are ready to meld into your life.

These puppies were rescued by Wendy from an outside pen a little over a month ago, where they received a little attention. She ensured that at least the mom was spayed and asked their human to surrender them to her. It was an effort where she enlisted the aid of many individuals and organizations that love animals, we were included and happy to help. These puppies are lucky to have Wendy as their advocate and fosterer. They will also be lucky to have you as their family!
