🚨 Adoptable Dog Alert 🚨

Louie is a big-hearted goofball with classic Rottie confidence and charm. Louie is attending our flexible group classes with his foster parents through his rescue Almost Home Rescue! At 3 years old, he’s strong but walks beautifully on leash and knows how to be gentle—especially when it comes to treats (his favorite part of training).

He’s a total lovebug once he knows you—leaning in for affection, rubbing up against you for pets, and yes, even trying to sit in your lap like he’s pocket-sized.

Louie is happiest when he’s near his people and thrives in a home where he’s included in everyday life. He is crate trained and house trained, knows his basic commands, and he has lived with cats in a previous home.

When Louie’s bored, he’ll find ways to keep himself busy—usually by turning household objects like shoes or toilet paper rolls into his own toys. He’s not destructive, just creative (and a little mischievous).

Louie would do best with kids over 12. He does not do well at the vet and is currently being muzzle trained to make appointments easier. Previous Rottweiler homeowners with fenced yards will only be considered. If you or anyone you know may be interested in adopting Louie, please reach out to Almost Home Rescue! 💜

We will be hosting our next FREE AKC Fit Dog Walk on August 30th at 10 am at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick RI! (This walk Is not suitable for reactive or aggressive dogs.)

What is AKC Fit Dog? 🐕

The American Kennel Club is committed to improving and maintaining the fitness and health of all dogs and their owners.
AKC FIT DOG titles were designed to provide a structured, individualized fitness plan that you and your dog can do together.
There are 3 levels of AKC fitness titles—Bronze (FITB), Silver (FITS), and Gold (FITG). Each title requires a specific number of activity points to be completed, which varies based on title level. 🏵️

For each of the 3 levels of titles, a minimum number of points must be earned in at least 2 categories for the title to be awarded.
AKC FIT DOG titles are noncompetitive, and dog owners may choose different activities to earn titles.

Who can participate in AKC FIT DOG? 🤔

To earn AKC FIT DOG titles, dogs can be purebred dogs registered with the AKC, or mixed-breed dogs registered with the AKC Canine Partners program. But if your dog is not registered with the AKC, you can still participate and even earn a free magnet! To earn a Bronze AKC FIT DOG Title, dogs must be at least 6 months old, but keep in mind there may also be other age-related rules that handlers must follow for higher-impact sports. (Such as agility or Disc.)

When participating in AKC FIT DOG activities, dogs may wear slip collars, buckle collars, martingales, and body harnesses, or head collars. Dogs may not wear training collars such as prong collars, or e-collars. Dogs should be on 4- or 6-foot leashes made of fabric or leather unless participating in a sport that requires a dog to be off-leash. Head halters are also allowed. Dogs with disabilities are welcome and encouraged to participate in FIT DOG titling, so long as they can safely perform the events. Handlers with disabilities can use any mobility aids and assistance necessary.

We would like to congratulate some of our agility students for their most recent achievements!

Team Mad-Eye: At a local AKC agility trial, Mad-Eye had a qualifying JWW run! He also earned a first placement!

Team Zelda: At a local USDAA agility trial, Zelda earned her Bronze Jumper title!

We offer agility classes for all levels! Our Introduction to Agility class is perfect for teams wanting to try the sport for this first time. More advanced teams can take advantage of either our Raising the Bar, Skills & Drills, or Advanced Coursework classes. After completing a round of Teen Track Prep School, Lundy the mixed breed’s parents have decided to continue him in Canine Camp. We’re so excited to have him! 🐶

Not your typical Doggy Daycare! Our Canine Campers will enjoy playtime, enrichment, and napping during their stay at Camp.
🐾
Camp is meant to maintain your pups training so there will be quite a bit of training happening during playgroup. We will practice recalls out of play, group sits, taking turns for treats, and sitting at gates/doors before they are opened.

Campers will also get to see a variety of enrichment objects added to their playgroups. They will also be exposed to a variety of socialization props including canes, crutches, wheelchairs, fireworks sounds, noise cds, and more!

We had a great first Conformation Breed Handling classes last week! We had 9 different breeds strutting their stuff around the room. Some of these dogs are actively showing in the ring, some of them are preparing for their first show, and some are actually practice dogs helping their owners prepare for when they get their next dog!
