We’ve gotten several inquiries about the formula we use for babies at the rescue. We use Zoologic 33/40 mixed with other ingredients to match the dietary needs that opossums (and our other wildlife) have. Opossums in particular require especially specific nutritional needs, such as calcium and phosphorus having to be balanced.

When you see a green or brown liquid in bowls in our videos, those are usually a form of ‘slurry’ we make with formula added with blended veggies. It is important to have for our severely injured opossums that have face/jaw damage so they can get proper nutrition down until they’re healed enough to consume solids again. We use a slurry for the babies so as they start to eat veggies, it’s a gradual process to introduce the flavor of greens in a format (formula) they are already accustomed to.

It’s definitely a process keeping all these tummies full, but we’re very happy to do it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! There’s so many misunderstandings about wildlife, so we’re glad to get the chance to educate whenever possible 😊❤️

Dinner is a family affair 🖤

Mama is teaching the kids how to eat their veggies! The three of them are actually going to be moved to a bigger area to ride out the remainder of their time at the rescue until pre-release so she has a little more space to teach them how to possum

Last call! We have two copies left of each book! We’re asking $15 for each book plus shipping 😊

The first book, Stinky and the Strength to Trust, was written based off one of our past skunk rescues and his story to trust us at the rescue. The second book, Jack and the Hidden Seeds, was inspired by one of our squirrels and his love for nuts and seeds 🐿️ Both have since been released, but we are so happy that their stories live on in the pages of these books 🤍🖤

Order Info- DM us if interested in ordering along with your shipping address and once confirmed, I will send out next day (unless placed Friday, it will go out Monday).

Drop your guess in the comments!

Aaaaand the answer is…. 4 days!

We do these orders about twice a week to keep enough on hand for all 100 opossums 🥣

Opossums have very specific dietary needs. We use yogurt to meet their calcium requirements. So every morning it is yogurt for breakfast 😋

It’s dinner time in pre-release!

Each pre-release area has two bed options (one with a hard shell, one soft like the beds inside), branches and beams for learning to climb, a water bin, a hammock and lined with hay and other textures to interact with. There is no set amount of time each opossum will spend in pre-release; it’s dependent on how they’re doing. Some get out there and are ready to go. Others are happy to be outside, but still want a little time to adapt. Overall, opossums (like most wildlife) ‘wild up’ very quickly. It’s definitely rewarding to see them enjoying the climbing or burying their nose in the hay to sniff for bugs.

A realistic series of emotions we see at the rescue. Skepticism, uncertainty, curiosity, confusion, relaxation. Many of the animals come in injured and scared. Most quickly realize we’re trying to help, but it’s still in their nature to fear us. We try to move slowly and quietly around them to keep their anxieties low and respect their space as much as possible, but there is no way to avoid all interactions since we need to administer medicines, clean wounds, swap potty pads/bedding, etc routinely. Each individual reacts differently, but this lovely lady sums up many of the emotions they express during our interactions. The cautious curiosity, lots of sniffing and staring, then once seeing the threat level is low, going back in bed while we work around them. Some are more scared than others, some are more intrigued than others. Whatever the case may be, they will always be treated with the respect and love they deserve.
