Myths & Facts About Dog Grooming
Myth 1: Shaving a double-coated dog (like Huskies, golden retrievers, border collies) keeps them cooler in summer.
Fact: Shaving can actually harm their coat, cause sunburn, and affect natural insulation. Regular brushing and deshedding is the best way to keep them comfortable.
Myth 2: Dogs don’t need professional grooming if they’re bathed at home.
Fact: Professional groomers not only bathe dogs but also trim nails, clean ears, check skin, remove mats, and style coats properly—things most owners miss at home.
Myth 3: Bathing dogs too often is bad for their skin.
Fact: With the right pet-safe shampoo, dogs can be bathed regularly. Overbathing with harsh products is the problem—not grooming itself.
Myth 4: Short-haired dogs don’t need grooming.
Fact: Even short-haired breeds shed, need nail trims, ear cleaning, and sometimes deshedding treatments. Grooming helps with coat health and odor.
Myth 5: Nail trims aren’t important if dogs walk on pavement.
Fact: Walking on pavement helps a little, but it doesn’t replace regular trims. Overgrown nails can cause joint pain and posture problems.
Myth 6: Dog haircuts are just for looks.
Fact: Grooming prevents painful matting, skin infections, and overheating. Comfort and health come first—style is just a bonus!
Myth 7: Any shampoo works for dogs.
Fact: Human shampoos can irritate a dog’s skin due to pH differences. Professional groomers use products formulated specifically for dogs.
