The bone cleaning update nobody asked for:

Beetle cleaning is NOT passive work. Or at least MY beetle cleaning is not passive work... But there's more than one way to skin a cat after all. To stick to the point, I was just thrilled to find so many opportunities for deep care laced throughout the beetle cleaning process for those desiring enough to find them.

I like to stay in step with my preservations, tracking their progress every day. There's a delicate balance between doing enough and overworking. Done slowly and done with intention, it becomes like breathing and so I step into the studio to sift through the treasured remains of companions preparing to go home and the motions are easy and flow like a river of love.

Good afternoon my precious community!

I would like to personally and cordially invite you to join us at the Boone's Solace Studio on Sunday, December 21st from 4pm to 5pm for our First Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony & Winter Solstice Celebration. πŸŽ„

This community event packs a lot into a very small amount of time; part healing ceremony and part festive holiday celebration, we'll have warm and cold seasonal beverages; a craft table; song circle; a gift under the tree for each household; and an opportunity to allow your grief a place at the table during the ceremony among like minds and souls also affected by loss this year.

If you plan to attend, please bring:
- a communal attitude
- winter weather shoes - it's gotten muddy on the homestead!
- a flashlight (cell phone flashlight is OK)
- (OPTIONAL) a photo of your lost loved ones to leave on the tree, if you so desire :)

And finally, in order to be sure that I am prepared with gifts and beverages for all in attendance, please kindly RSVP to [email protected] with the number of people you expect to have in attendance. I am so looking forward to celebrating with you not only the solstice and the return of the light, but the 21st is also a special day for me. It is the second anniversary of my mother's death and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping to bring love and meaning to this day for all of us.

Warm holiday hugs to all 🀍 Hope to see you on the 21st!

90,000 bandaids later πŸ˜‚

I was actually exceptionally not ready to do this build. Someone should really go back in time and tell her. LOL. 2/10, do not recommend. I am convinced it only worked out because of the power of Autistic Audacityℒ️

1. My colony of beetles showed up like a week earlier than I expected, talk about a fire under my butt. No, the dermestidarium was NOT ready.

2. Weeks of research had yielded not a single set of detailed instructions for the build... Nary a YT video worthy of my praise, AND I had to fast track the process for the early colony.

3. Sounds fast to cut some holes and pop in the components. It's not. πŸ˜‚πŸ«  Literally took an entire day WITH the right tools and an extra set of hands. I'm convinced you can't do it in less. If you say you did I WILL think you're fibbing.

4. My hands have healed up just fine, don't worry. I do swear by Liquid Band-aid for those that often find themselves in similar situations πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š

ANYWAY I'm beetle cleaning now ✨ Good riddance to the maceration buckets! Happy Halloween from me and my spooky, scary skeletons!

The first step in the process is always grief.

Your grief is my grief. I never begin without anointing your beloved pet in my tears.

It's why many (most ) taxidermists won't touch a pet; it takes a certain amount of something broken within you to be able to do this work. The something broken in me sees the something broken in you.

It is an honor and a joy to be selected to care for your loved ones. Thank you for entrusting me with your most delicate work. 🀍

Juvenile Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus)
from the archives πŸ¦…βœ¨

Diana of Brazier Taxidermy brought me in on this project in order to keep the work in house for a relative. What an honor and a joy to be invited to be a part of such a unique and meaningful project with other talented women in the field.

We ended up parting it, wasting nothing. The finished pieces will be used ceremonially in the annual tipi raisings in the spring.
