It’s like she heard me on the phone…
I was telling my team member we had done some releases and we could start doing some intakes again.

There she was - outside my window looking at me. I recognized her. People around town have been sending me pictures. I knew where her den was. There were businesses nearby and multiple owners were concerned about her. The trick was capturing her. I hadn’t quite figured out how we would get her since she was still very mobile in the videos I had seen.

My dog started barking and she ran. All I could see was her skinny, frail body and bald tail as she used what little energy she had to get away.

It was time. She wouldn’t last much longer. She was getting slower. We had a chance of capturing her now.

I made a game plan with the business owners. They alerted us when they saw her again. The team went down and 7 of us worked together to contain her.

I am grateful to all the people who contacted us about her. She is dealing with secondary rodenticide poisoning and mange and she needs all the help she can get. It takes a village and this village truly did come to her rescue.

So here we are…back where we started. She’s just looking at me - but this time she isn’t looking through the window. She is inside the rescue. This time she is getting the help she needs.

If you're wondering why vet prices have almost doubled in the past year, it's likely your vet was bought out by a private equity firm. You'll never know it by the look of it, because the establishment will remain the same on the outside but the prices will tell you a different story. The vet you use may be owned by the same firm that owns the food you eat and the household products you use. Vet care is a huge market for private equity firms and they're coming for your pockets. Pets are looked at at 'children' and they know it. The Veterinary industry is being run by corporations, streamlining the process from care, to food, to medication, all in one place being controlled by one entity. Do your research and ask the questions.

Chewy now owns one of the largest vet clinics in the nation. That's no coincidence. It's vertical integration.

The corporate ran vet offices prescribe certain foods and push certain medications for a reason and they know you'll pay.

Now don't get me wrong, this is not to take away from the amazing veterinarians or staff at these practices. This is just to bring awareness to what is happening in the pet care industry. This is also happening with the dog daycare and boarding industry.
