FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNS ANIMAL OWNERS OF IMPENDING COLD WEATHER

WINSTON-SALEM: The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public of the
predicted freezing temperatures in the area and the proper way to care for their animals during this time.

According to the current 10-day forecast for Winston-Salem, temperatures are expected to drop below 10 degrees with 10-mile-per-hour winds, accompanied by the added risk of snow. These temperatures are well below the norm for our region and pose a serious and immediate threat to the lives of animals in our community. Please bring all pets inside to a warm and protected shelter with access to fresh water. Dogs and cats left outdoors in these conditions can experience frostbite, hypothermia, organ failure, and even death.

“Our companion animals rely on us to care for them and shield them from harm. In times of extreme weather, we must put their needs and safety first. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate owners who can’t or won’t protect these loving creatures. Please ensure that your pet is safe, dry, and warm during the predicted extremely cold temperatures this week,” –

The Dog

A dog has an extraordinary gift — it remembers every act of kindness.

In this self-centered world, a dog is the only truly selfless friend — it won’t leave, betray, or turn away.

When you’re strong and when your body fails.
It won’t laugh at your tears or judge your mistakes.

A dog will curl up at your feet on the cold ground, enduring wind, rain, or snow — just to stay close.

It will lick your wounds as if to say, “The world can be cruel, but I’m here.”

It guards your sleep — whether you rest in a palace or on a sidewalk.
