It is with deep regret we join wonderful Pom rescuer Maura in remembering her sweet lil man Charles. A typical older dog, abandoned then loved wholeheartedly by his new ''Kahu'' (look it up, I learned a new word too) Maura, after making the long journey to the Pacific Northwest, he thrived and flourished. For 4 years he gained strength and beauty then as we all know to expect, began to have health issues that were cautiously monitored until nothing could be done and it was his time to say goodbye, with Maura there to kiss his head and remind him of the joy he brought her.

Just another story that emphasizes how wonderful that time one has with an older dog can be.

And thank you Maura for always alerting us to others in need. We saved quite a few through you these years you have been in our lives.

Solo came to us with a broken leg. Said to be 18 years old, he has now gone through 2 surgeries but is doing very well and gets around the yard in New York with Charlotte and the other dogs. Hooray for Solo!

We lost sweet Honeybuns during the night sleeping with Charlotte and her pack. She arrived from San Luis Obispo Pound with a huge tumor, underwent a tough surgery at her advanced age but survived and thrived. This beautiful photos was taken by Lori as we were traveling through Texas. Run through those clouds little honey buns, and rest in peace now, we are so glad we got to know you.

Yesterday MCR with New Hope LAAS status, pulled this dog from East Valley thanks to volunteer Julie Levine of Rescue Canine Connection who then transported Jalapeno to his next driver to take him on to So Nevada Beagle Rescue. Thanks Julie and happy to help get that sweet Beagle to safety.

Sunny just had a dental. Three broken teeth but no extractions necessary. This old girl also had a benign growth removed from a fold in her inner ear today. She is feeling NO PAIN right now. We’ve had her since spring 2014, shortly after the accident. She is a Meade Canine Rescue from Puerto Rico, and she is one solid, very good dog! We love our dear old Sun- Bun!

Sweet lttle Mary found her forever home with long time friend of Charlotte’s. Notice the green grass and surrounding trees. All the dogs and of course humans, are very happy in NY.

Today one of the volunteers who was at the Creston location the day we left texted me (Teresa again!) some photos from that day. Look how bright eyed and bushy tailed and clean we all look before we left on our big adventure! (There are 2 people in the photo who worked very hard that day loading the buses and vehicles, but did not drive out with us, in case you’re counting people.)

from Charlotte our (very) local hardware store way more ‘me’ than Home Depot. Not sure what’s going on with the gorilla and the man on the roof, but it’s family owned.

See that little chubby dog? That’s elderly and blind Daisy, a six year resident of Meade Canine Rescue.

While the rescue has officially relocated to New York-Daisy was left behind as she was adopted by a wonderful woman (and previous Meade adopter) from Portland, Oregon. Due to scheduling issues, there was a two week delay in uniting Daisy with her forever home.

Our volunteer Lisa drove Daisy up to Medford, where the lovely adopter met Lisa for the ‘Daisy handoff!’ The adopter asked that she not be photographed-but that’s her hands on Daisy, who is standing on a blanket she made especially for little Daisy! ❤️

The adopter loved Daisy the minute she saw her, and is going to be an amazing dog mom to our now-sweet Daisy. We could not be more happy!!

Daisy had many adventures along the way to Oregon-including a photo opp at a lemonade stand-which was about 50 feet from an impromptu ‘do your biz’ stop in Yreka. Also, her first time crossing state lines into Oregon from California, and her first hotel stay to boot!

She was adored by the wonderful hotel desk clerk, who gave Daisy a nice sendoff from the Holiday Inn Express in Walnut Creek, Ca.

She enjoyed the road trip, which also included a ‘spa experience’ at the hotel, where she slept on a King sized bed and in the morning was served breakfast in bed, in her own personal dog bed.

Daisy was a feisty pup when she first arrived at the rescue, not hesitating to bite any human or dog that walked by! She was infamous during her 6 years at Meade Canine Rescue! Since those wild early days she has mellowed, and in her golden years is just a bundle of love.

A HUGE shoutout to fellow Meade volunteer Noelle Hartshorn- who graciously took Daisy in and cared for her these last two weeks, in preparation for the adoption road trip!
