This is Bosco, and Bosco is a pup of very specific taste. 😄

He follows me from room to room the entire groom. Wherever I go, Bosco goes. It's honestly one of the sweetest things - he just wants to be close.

And the toys? Dog toys? Not interested. Cat toys? Obsessed. Every single time. I don't question it. I just keep the cat toys stocked.

Bosco was an absolute dream from start to finish - did beautifully, soaked up every minute, and walked out looking like the handsome little king he is.

Some dogs just come in and make your whole day better. Bosco is one of those. 💙🐾

Hi. It's me. Koah. Chief Fluff Officer of Happy Tails. 🐾

I need to talk about Oreo.

Oreo came in for her spring de-shed and then walked outside and just... posed in front of the azalea bushes like she planned it. Full tongue out. Full sunshine. Full main character energy.

I respect it deeply.

Mom says Oreo is genuinely just happy to be here every single time. As someone who also lives here, I can confirm the vibes are very good and Oreo has excellent taste.

Wilmington in the spring with a freshly groomed dog. There is truly nothing better. Oreo knows this. I know this. Now you know this.

Meet Shelby - and this was her very first groom. Ever. In her whole life. 🌟

First grooms are something I take really seriously. Whatever a dog experiences the first time sets the tone for how they feel about grooming for the rest of their life. So we slow way down.

With Shelby we did lots of playtime. We let her explore and sniff and just get comfortable. When it came to clippers, I used my smaller, quieter ones - less overwhelming for a brand new pup. We introduced everything slowly and let her tell us when she was ready.

And she was wonderful. Patient, curious, totally willing. She let me do everything, expect the ears. 👀 Don't worry, we will get there.

When we were done she found the red toy, laid down with it, and that was that. Day officially declared perfect. 😂

Look at that before and after. She is a whole new girl and she clearly feels it. This is exactly how first grooms should go.

This is Yogi, and I have to tell you his story. 💙

Yogi is a 5 year old Pomeranian who came to me after having had more than 7 different groomers in his life. Grooming was really hard for him - a lot of fear, a lot of anxiety. So we built a system just for him.

Every five minutes, we get off the table. We take a break, reset, and then we come back. Five minutes on, break, five minutes on, break. He lets me brush his back beautifully now. His paws we're still working on 👀 And that is completely okay. We'll get there when Yogi says we're ready.

One year later, he trots in happy. And bath time? Bath time is his absolute MOMENT. Every single time the bath is done, Yogi gets the zoomies. Just takes off. Pure celebration energy. 😂

And then he claims the nearest soft surface and decides the day was perfect.

Yogi, you have come so far. I am so proud of you.🥺

Nova and Baylee came in together - like they always do. 💛

These two sweet sisters have some anxiety, and that's okay. We don't rush it. Nail trims? We do one nail at a time, take breaks, go outside, play a little, get some love in - and then come back. Whatever they need.

Something I love about being a groomer is getting to figure out what works for each individual dog. Nova and Baylee actually do best when it's just us! No Koah, no extra energy. So that's exactly how we do it.

They always leave so soft, so calm, and so beautiful. That's all that matters. 😀

Hi. Koah here. 🐶

This is Mango. Same face. Same fluff. Same energy.

Genetically? No relation. Spiritually? Twins.

Mango has been coming to see my mom for five years now and I need you to know - it did not start like this. Face trims? Hard no. Dremel on the nails? Absolutely not. Even letting mom near his face was a whole negotiation.

Patience, breaks, walks, and his favorite beef treats later... he lets her do everything now. And he still gives thank-you kisses every single time, even on the hard days. 💙

That's how trust is built around here. Slowly. Kindly. With snacks.🐾

Milo, working hard. Koah, supervising from the chair. 😂

This is honestly just a regular day around here.

Milo is one of my big, beautiful Goldendoodles and he has been coming to Happy Tails for a while now. He is such a gentle giant. He loves his groom days, his walks, and his bully sticks... and he is fully unbothered by anything.

Koah, on the other hand, takes his supervisory role VERY seriously. He positioned himself in that chair and watched the entire groom like he was grading it. 👀

I think we passed inspection. 🐾

I don't know what's out there, but based on the intensity of this stare it is clearly very important business.

My best guess: he heard a dog bark two streets over and is now writing a strongly worded letter in his head.

Either that or he's mentally reviewing the day's appointment schedule. Chief Fluff Officer duties never stop, you know.

Koah is the heart of Happy Tails and my actual business partner, quality control expert, and the reason new dogs walk in nervous and walk out with a friend. 💙

Meet Flower. 😛

Flower is one of our newer Happy Tails family members, and she has wasted absolutely zero time making herself at home.
We're talking full tongue, full energy, full personality from the moment she walks in. She arrived a little unsure at first, and now she's commandeering the couch with Koah like she owns the place. 😂

Koah takes his welcome committee duties very seriously, and I think Flower was a fan from day one.

The dogs who come in a little uncertain and leave like THIS, tongue flying, tail wagging, already best friends with the house dog... that's the whole reason I do what I do.

Welcome to the family, sweet girl. You fit right in. 🐾

This is Lani. And somewhere back there, supervising very seriously, is Koah. 😂

I'm going to let you look at this photo and figure out what happened here.

All I'll say is: that's not a mess. That's a groom. All that fluff on the floor? That used to be Lani's coat, and now she's standing in it looking VERY pleased with herself. 🩷

This is what one-on-one grooming actually looks like, friends. Dogs who feel safe enough to just be themselves. Fully, chaotically, joyfully themselves.

Koah, of course, is maintaining full supervisory authority from a respectful distance.

I wouldn't have it any other way. 🐾
