It was a wonderful week for two of our dogs who had been here awhile. Both Lady and Josie left for their new homes. They are both such cute, sweet dogs we couldn’t believe they hadn’t already been adopted, but the right family just had to come along, and we are so glad they did. We wish them both the best of luck.

Update on Romeo!

When Romeo first arrived we received a lot of applications on him. He is a friendly, cute, healthy guy and was doing well in the foster home. So we reviewed the applications and started setting up meetings with him.

We did know that on occasion when walking on a leash if he encountered a taller/bigger male (person, not dog), he would bark and pull on the leash. He did not try to bite but was obviously upset with bigger men.

But we now have found that on some occasions he will actually bark and lunge at others when on a leash, not just men. So we had to re-evaluate what kind of a home he needed. We also knew we needed to talk to our trainer and get a feel for what is going on.

We do feel he needs an experienced, patient owner willing to work on his reactivity and socialization around new people and environments since he was pretty isolated and not exposed to much in his previous home. He will definitely need obedience training and help with these issues, especially since this behavior can overshadow the sweet boy that he is. We also now are not comfortable sending him to a home with children.

So Romeo is available for adoption, and most of the time he is a sweet, friendly boy with a happy personality. He is a two-year old male Yorkie mix who weighs about 13 pounds. He is a little overweight so the foster family is working on that.

He does love to walk and has lots of energy, but he can chill with the best of them when it's time to rest.

He is potty-trained and sleeps in a crate all night. He would do best on a home with another dog to play with. He would also love to have a fenced yard where he can run and play.

Remember, he does need grooming so that can be expensive. Make sure you are ready to take on a little expense.

You can find our application at www.homesfurhounds.org
He is located in Williamsburg, Va.

A shelter dog doesn’t get to choose who walks through the door, but they wait all the same.

They don’t care about the car you drive or the house you live in. They only want someone kind, patient, and willing to stay.

When you adopt, you’re not just giving a dog a home - you’re promising to be their world. Take that choice seriously. Look beyond the cute faces and wagging tails and ask yourself if you’re ready for the loyalty and trust that come with it.

Every dog deserves an owner who would be chosen back if they had the chance. Be the person they’d pick without hesitation.

Two little Yorkies held onto each other as if the whole world could disappear, and they would still be safe in that hug. 🐾❤️ Their eyes spoke louder than words: “As long as we have each other, we’re never alone.”

✨ Sometimes love doesn’t need a voice, just a gentle embrace. ✨

ADORABLE ADOPTABLE DOGS!

Tom and Jerry are 2-3 year old Havanese/Poodle mixes (Havapoo) looking for a home. According to their foster parents they are REALLY wonderful, very bonded Havapoos. Because they are bonded and have been together since they were puppies we want to keep them together.

They have been here in foster care for over a month and are doing great. They are very friendly & affectionate. They are very eager to be liked and do sometimes jump up on people when they first meet, so may need some training on that.

They are housebroken and crate trained. They have learned leash walking and love walks.

They are crate trained, smart, and playful. They do know some commands, including sit and stay. They do act like puppies in some respects and will chew on things they shouldn't occasionally.

They love children but because they are so playful and friendly, shy children may be a little afraid of them. They did great with other dogs their size at the dog park but were a little intimidated by the bigger dogs. They do fine on a leash, however, if they see bigger dogs out walking.

They are neutered, UTD on vaccines, HW negative and micro-chipped.

We understand taking on two dogs may not be for everyone, and grooming two dogs can get expensive, but we know the right family willing to take these two brothers together is out there.

Our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org

They are located in Williamsburg, Va.

Adoption Alert! Shelly has been adopted!

This very sweet Maltese arrived here a few months ago extremely sick with pneumonia. Her foster mom took wonderful care of her and eventually she was ready for her dental and spay surgery. Of course once she was ready to go we had lots of people interested. We are so happy she was adopted by a family who has adopted several dogs from us, the most recent dog was Finn. Finn and Shelly (now Annie) are already getting along great.

We have several dogs here that we just don't understand how they have not been adopted. Lady is one of those dogs.

Lady is one of the sweetest, best lap dogs! She came to us as a stray, scared and trembling, but slowly realized that trust is still possible. Though she is still timid and shy with strangers or large dogs, she did great at an event on Sunday with lots of people and dogs around.

She seems to want a cozy lap and human contact now! We think she is between 8-9 years old. She is a tiny girl at only about 5 pounds.

While still requiring a gentle touch, she has discovered toys and loves to play and zoom around the house or yard! She sleeps through the night curled up beside her foster parents and follows them everywhere. She loves her car rides and does 95% of her business outside. Still has an occasional accident but is learning quickly!

She is very responsive to voice commands and seems unfazed by the small dogs she's met. She's a sweet and lovable little lady!

Lady would need a home where someone is home a lot, especially to spoil her. Small kids would not be good because of her size.
If you are interested in Lady her application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org
She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Sorry it took a few days to get these posted but these are the dogs who arrived last week from a cruelty case out of Maryland. They arrived on Wednesday and are all settled in their foster homes. Most of you probably saw the videos of the horrific conditions they were living in so as you can imagine they do have some medical needs for us to take care of. But we did want to share these cute pictures of them as they’re meeting their foster parents.

What a great day we had with the Sander's family celebrating Cameren's birthday on Sunday. We can't thank them enough for their donations to Homes Fur Hounds, Inc. The Sander's family and friends donated beautiful gift baskets to raffle and most of our fosters and volunteers also brought wonderful baskets and items to raffle.

Over $4300.00 was donated to us as well as gift cards, dog supplies and toys. All of our foster dogs had a great time meeting everyone who attended.

Again, we want to thank the Sander's family and everyone who participated in making this a wonderful birthday party.

We wanted to share this fundraiser started by one of our favorite adopters. She adopted Uncle Jed, a wonderful senior who did have some medical issues but she was still willing to adopt. She has taken such great care of him and we are so happy to see him when she brings him to our events. We hope you will donate to help her meet her birthday goal.
