πΎ Before You Hit the Road, Cat-Proof Your RV! ππ
Traveling full-time with cats is one of the greatest adventures you'll ever share. They become your co-pilots, campground bird watchers, and expert nappers. But before you pull out of the driveway, there's one important step every RV cat parent should take:
Cat-proof your RV.
Unlike a traditional home, an RV has tight spaces, moving furniture, storage compartments, and plenty of places for a curious cat to squeeze into. A little preparation can prevent accidents and make life on the road much safer for everyone.
Here are a few things to check before traveling:
πΎ Secure cabinet and pantry doors so curious paws can't open them while you're driving.
πΎ Cover or organize electrical cords to prevent chewing.
πΎ Check for small gaps behind appliances, under furniture, or inside storage compartments where a frightened cat could hide or become trapped.
πΎ Keep windows and screens securely latched. Cats are quick, especially when they spot a bird or squirrel outside.
πΎ Remove toxic plants, chemicals, medications, and human foods that could be harmful.
πΎ Secure breakable decorations and loose items that could fall while traveling.
πΎ Create a safe space with their favorite bed, blanket, scratching post, and toys so they have a familiar place to relax.
πΎ Make sure every cat wears a collar with an ID tag and is microchipped, just in case they ever slip outside.
πΎ Before extending or retracting your slides, always know where your cats are. Curious kitties can hide in places you least expect.
Our three girls, Ellie, Abby, and Miss Fred, have taught us that cats can turn almost anything into an adventure. We've learned that a little planning goes a long way toward keeping them safe and happy as we travel.
The goal isn't to stop them from exploring, it's to give them a safe place to explore.
A cat-proof RV means more peace of mind for you and a happier adventure for your feline travel companions. πβ€οΈπ
