🤔 What does loose leash walking really look like?
It’s a common belief that your dog needs to stick to your side the entire walk—but that’s not what it always looks like.
When I walk my own dogs, I actually let them go ahead of me. They’re allowed to sniff around or lag behind a little… because for me, the walk is just as much for them as it is for me.
My main rule? Don’t drag me or make the walk unpleasant. If that happens, we make adjustments.
I do ask for more structure when we pass people or when we’re in busier areas—but for the most part, it’s their time to enjoy.
When I work with clients, I absolutely teach structure, but I also teach them that their dog can still have freedom without losing manners.
It’s not about keeping your dog glued to your side—it’s about having a peaceful, enjoyable walk together.
And if I can get it with my own dogs, I can help you get there too!
