Had my 1st lesson with Remi tonight! He's a bossy little punk who's also as sweet as can be! Tonight was about getting his owners on board with some consistency in both his routine and training to help out his anxiety. I'm super excited to watch him figure everything out! Welcome to the COAST Dog Training family Remi!

New client...Buddy! I'll try to get better at sharing these awesome dogs that I'm training! Buddy is a 1 year old rescue that has anxiety & excitement issues which causes him to nip and bite. He's a big barker and has a small list of other quirks that we'll be working on. Like many families, they adopted him during COVID since they were at home, and had the time to train. But, like so many COVID pups, severely lacked the socialization of being around strangers, other animals, and life outside of the house/yard in general. Excited to watch this cutie learn!

This was Coco the 5 month old Shepherd Mix's 1st time on a prong collar. She is lovingly spoiled and was doing ok on her flat collar, but started "protesting" her training so it was time for a little change. As a puppy she is easily distracted, so I brought Mo'i out to make her heel practice a little more challenging. This lap was after a FANTASTIC tantrum because of the new training tool. She's not as happy to work as I'd like to see, and her dad was still getting used to giving her slack in her leash, but overall not a bad recovery AND she's starting to think which is what I LOVE to see!

Today's lesson with Bailey!

1st video was his first pass at the dog park fence and it wasn't awesome, but I'm using it to show how quickly much he progresses in the 45 minutes he spent with me

2nd & 3rd videos...mom is still working on herself...when and how to correct, finding her power & her voice but she is really coming along. Bailey no longer lunges at people on walks & his obedience is getting better. The last thing I want to work on/fix is getting his attention. That has been the hardest challenge with this dog. He is hyper vigilant about his surrender & had a REALLY hard time focusing on his owner when out in public. Mom has some homework with him this week in regards to that, so we'll see how she does next week.
..and yes...the snorting you hear in the background is Matilda 🤣

Bailey is really progressing nicely! We need to clean up his heel a bit, but he decision to NOT react to the people we walked by was really what I was looking for 🙂. This pet store was packed and he responded as he should...looking up at his mom for guidance. Bailey tries really really hard to please...so much so, in fact, that a few times he got distracted by passers by and so he offered a behavior (sit) that wasn't asked for when he heard his name in the middle of his heel LOL. Bailey has so much potential & he is trying to "do good", it is a pleasure working with this dog & family who is trying to make sure they have a safe dog 🐕 who is well trained.

Lesson #3 with Bailey yesterday was fantastic! The first 2 times I've been at his house, I couldn't approach him without getting lunged and barked at. But, yesterday he was SO happy to see me! He wiggled, jumped up and gave me lots of kisses! THAT was our 1st win of the session! Bailey is a fear reactive dog with people, so any positive interactions he has is wonderful! The 3 videos show his progression through the hour...he started out lunging at the boy on the bike, to being able to work through the stress and realizing nothing bad was going to happen. The last video you can clearly see stress signals as he's approaching us because there were movers right behind us, but he never reacted outwardly! SO proud of this sweet boy who is trying so hard for his family!

There are still a few spots left and tomorrow's basic obedience group class. If you are interested in joining please let me know by commenting on this post. I would be happy to put you on the list! Group class is $100 for 7 weeks of lessons and we cover the basics such as sit, down, he'll, stay, and come. On top of all that we get some great socializing done and have a great time doing it. Class starts at 9 a.m. in Huntington Beach at Central Park off of Edwards right in front of the dog park.

Also worked on "back" backwards up the stairs! This only took 3 attempts before I figured out to ask him to wait before asking him to back up! ...its always the owner that takes longer to figure everything out! 😉

Working on "over" with different objects/windows. This one was a new one for Mo'i! After dancing around it a bit, he cleared the jump...barely 😉 Peanut Butler cookies from was enough incentive I guess!

03/08/2016

Tried a couple of new things with Mo'i, or variations of this he already knows. Having him jump over/through new objects without me having to bait him through...just saying the word "over" and having him figure it out. So awesome to watch his brain work!

My Intermediate and Advanced Group Class performing the "cluster" sit stay! We get the dogs as close together as comfortably possible (sometimes a little uncomfortable) and make them stay! Sometimes there's kissing, sometimes there's cuddling but very rarely does anyone completely freak out! Even Kovu was comfortable enough to sit super close to Mo'i!

"Touch" is a brand new command to my Advanced Group! I started teaching it last week and some of the teams already are able to have their dogs move to the object to touch it! Way to go BC & !

Advanced dog teams working on "side", "get around" & "front". Watch the yellow lab in the middle...Lariat rocks her "side" command!

Basic class performing their recall from a "backwards" down stay. Its important to keep your dogs thinking...hearing a command that they know from different positions is so important!

Last class of the session yesterday! Here's Basic working on their down stays! All 3 of these dog teams are moving onto Intermediate next session!
