Two dogs. Completely different personalities. Completely different training needs. 👏

One of the biggest mistakes people make in multi-dog households is trying to train every dog the exact same way.

Evie is the outgoing social butterfly type — confident, pushy, excited, and always ready to be involved. Her work focuses heavily on impulse control, calm greetings, accountability, and learning that excitement does not get rewarded.

Bruno, a newer rescue, is the opposite. Nervous dogs do NOT need strangers constantly trying to pet them, talk to them, stare at them, or “socialize” them. In fact, that often creates more pressure and makes the dog worse.

For Bruno, the biggest recommendation was:
🚫 No touching
🚫 No talking to him
🚫 No eye contact
🚫 No unfamiliar dogs in his space

His work right now is about decompression, confidence building, kennel training, leash communication, and learning the world is safe again.

Good training is not about forcing every dog into the same mold. It’s about understanding the dog in front of you and creating clarity, structure, and trust. 🐺

At Intuitive Wolf K9 Training we specialize in real world obedience and behavior modification for dogs of ALL temperaments — from over-the-top social dogs to nervous rescues and everything in between.

Let’s talk about the lack of “before and after” videos on my page.

I’ve had other trainers criticize me for this in the past and even spread around that because I don’t constantly post dramatic before/after content, I must not actually be doing what I say I’m doing. Which honestly says a lot more about this industry than it does about me.

Here’s the reality:

When a client comes to me, they are usually already stressed, embarrassed, overwhelmed, anxious, exhausted, or emotionally defeated by what’s going on with their dog. The last thing on my mind in those moments is pulling out my phone and turning their struggle into content for social media.

My number one priority has always been the client and the dog. Not engagement. Not views. Not proving myself to other trainers online.

I also take on a LOT of dogs that other trainers have already failed with, refused to take, or completely turned down. So trust me when I say some of our first sessions look like the wild west trying to wrangle massive out of control dogs 😂

Do I sometimes look back later and think “dang, that would have made an incredible before and after”? Absolutely. But in the moment, my focus is on helping people, creating clarity, lowering stress, and getting the dog and handler into a better place.

That’s also why most of the photos and videos I post are dogs performing WELL. Calm. Structured. Neutral. Successful. Confident.

My goal is not to humiliate clients by posting them at one of the hardest points in their relationship with their dog just to market my business.

Let’s get something straight.

Service dogs are not “pets at work.”
They are not a topic for workplace gossip.
They are not public property.
And handlers should not have to defend, explain, or justify their medical equipment and training methods to every uncomfortable stranger they encounter.

Under federal law, service dogs are protected in public spaces, housing, and employment settings when they are assisting a disabled handler. That protection does not disappear because someone personally disagrees with a training tool, feels uncomfortable, or “doesn’t understand it.”

Most service dog handlers already live under an exhausting amount of scrutiny. People stare. People whisper. People ask invasive questions. People assume they know better than the handler, trainer, or medical professionals involved.

Imagine already struggling with PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, mobility issues, or another disabling condition and then having to walk around every day visibly marked as “different” because you require a service animal to function safely in public. That alone can already feel vulnerable and uncomfortable.

Now add interrogation, criticism, judgment, and unsolicited opinions from employers, businesses, coworkers, or strangers.

Please understand:
A service dog team does not owe the public a breakdown of their disability.
They do not owe strangers an explanation of their training methods.
And they certainly should not be made to feel ashamed for utilizing legally protected accommodations.

If you see a service dog in public, the best thing you can do is simple:
Mind your business.

Don’t distract the dog.
Don’t interrogate the handler.
Don’t project your personal feelings onto someone else’s medical accommodation.

Instead of asking "IS THAT A SERVICE DOG?" ask yourself, "is this any of my business?"
