With love from our pack to Emily Mehanna!

Emily has been interested in wolves since she was young. She has taken up a hobby to support wildlife through graphic design.

We are lucky to have Emily stumble across our website and find the furry friends here at the sanctuary! She has made wonderful t-shirts featuring wolves like Minigan, Flash, Valley Spirit, and Apollo. The proceeds from these t-shirts get donated to the refuge.

The care and support of people like Emily make our mission possible and we thank her for her lovely work.

Check out her merchandise through her website:

Each shirt supports a charitable animal rescue/shelter. Find your favorite cause today! Animals need our help TODAY. When you buy one of these shirts, you're not only...

Wolves across the US are again being persecuted under state management. The State of Idaho has adopted legislation that allows for the killing of 90% of the wolves statewide including newborn pups and nursing mothers in their dens. The State of Montana has adopted a bounty system similar to the one....

Spring is in the Air

Survival of the fittest comes to life every spring - literally! This is the optimum time to be a wolf pup as there is ample time to grow and learn to survive before winter sets back in.

Female wolves enter estrus, their heat cycle, in late winter to have their young in the spring to take advantage of the longer days and bright sun. Although the resident wolves at Mission: Wolf are spayed and neutered, we see them go through behavior changes as they experience the hormone shifts related to their estrus cycle. This shows us that, even when placed in captivity, their wild instincts still have an influence on their social interaction.

Join us in a howlin’ happy birthday to: Apollo, Aria, Artemis, Arrow, Batman, Buku, Cephira, Farah, Illiamna, Oreo, Saurya, Soleil, Zeab, Zephir, and Zuko, who were all born in April because of this natural cycle.

Most of the wolves enjoyed a blueberry birthday treat... some were hoping it was an extra piece of birthday meat..

We wanted to express our gratitude towards Noah Kline, a supporter of the mission here at the sanctuary.

Noah now owns his own company, Time Emporium, an escape room located in both Fort Collins and Loveland. Each month they pick a weekend to donate $2.00 from each ticket sold to support a cause (#Escapeforacause). For the month of March, they chose to donate to Mission: Wolf. They were able to raise $538 for the wolves - howls of love!

If you ever catch yourself in Fort Collins or Loveland, Colorado make sure to check out the Time Emporium.

Be the first to guess this wolf for March's riddle 🙂

Lady of the refuge and every volunteer's heart

Her life before Mission: Wolf was not easy; She had a rough start

When she was young, she was kept chained up

But nothing could tame the spirit of that wild pup

She lost her Romeo with her being Juliet

And will howl about it after big feed you can bet

Our oldest wolf-dog but she is still keen

A regal, sassy snow queen

On March 15th, 2021, we had to say goodbye to our dear wolf-dog and friend, Talon.

It is hard to find the words to describe this wonderful soul. In order to describe him appropriately, here is how our staff has described him- goofy, resilient, tenacious, gentle, strong, tolerant, a survivor, a lover of snow, a friend to the birds (even though he may not have agreed), and ultimately a true companion.

Talon brought the staff smiles every day effortlessly, which made the word lovable come up the most. He displayed this love throughout his entire life and has touched the hearts of many.

Howlin' for your attention!

During each month this year, Mission: Wolf will be posting a riddle about our resident wolves or information pertaining to wolves on our Facebook and Instagram accounts.

But wait, there is a twist!

For each account (Instagram and Facebook) the first person to guess the wolf (in the comments) gets a free membership for that animal or an animal of their choosing.

Unfamiliar with what a membership is?

By Becoming a wolf caretaker at Mission: Wolf, your support directly helps care for the resident wolves. In return, you will receive a beautiful 8x10 full color photo of that wolf. Additionally, you will get a subscription to our newsletter Wolf Visions, a Mission: Wolf decal sticker, a personalized certificate, a piece of naturally shed wolf fur, and a biography of that sponsored wolf.

Remember, if you need hints, I am sure you can find some on our website. (https://missionwolf.org)

For this month, the first riddle will be about one of our resident wolves...

Her name translates to the Goddess of Spring

What a wild young, vibrant thing

Approaching two years old come May

We see she continues to play

She throws a lot of energy into the crew

And is always intrigued by something new

An Arctic/British Columbian Timber

She sure makes a great new member

Artemis, will you be our valentine?

We are happy to announce that we were able to rescue a new wolf-dog.

Mission: Wolf got a call from Animal Control regarding a three-legged wolf-dog, Artemis, that had escaped from an enclosure in Alamosa, Colorado. People in the neighborhood became concerned after they noticed a stray animal roaming around their properties. Artemis was skittish, scared, and refused to come close to anyone. Local neighbors, Marie and Kenny began to care for her after noticing she looked malnourished and hungry. Through feeding her, they were able to develop a relationship. Although she began to trust them, she was still hesitant to come up too close.

Artemis ran loose in the area for over a year. With the help of property owners, we were able to rescue her and bring her back to the refuge on February 13th. All of the neighbors and the property owners showed compassion and patience with Artemis. Without the help of the locals, we would not have been able to rescue this courageous animal.

While all wolves have our hearts, we are on cloud nine this Valentine's Day having Artemis in a safe and comfortable space. Welcome to the pack!

Be on the lookout for her full story in our upcoming newsletter and on our website.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Denali National Park Wolves via NPS trail cam!!!

Here’s a peek into the hidden lives of Denali's wolves! These are trail camera photos taken at wolf dens during past summers, and they offer a glimpse into the family lives of wolves in Denali National Park. This time of year, wolves in the park will be giving birth to their pups in dens. The whole pack will help the breeding female care for the litter. The trail cameras are put in place before the denning season begins and removed after the denning season ends to avoid disturbing the wolves. The goal is to gather more information about Denali’s wolf population – cute puppy photos are a bonus!

Saurya

Born on April 1, 2017 in Indiana Arrived at Mission: Wolf on June 4, 2017

S*x: Female

Fondly referred to as our “April Fool’s Baby,” Saurya (Shuh-rye-uh) was born at the Washington Park Zoo in Indiana, when an accidental litter of puppies required the facility to find a suitable home. Our staff drove halfway across the country to Lincoln, NE, to pick up little Saurya along with her sister Chakra, who now resides at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center in Divide, CO.

Saurya, a pure wolf, was timid and unsure about meeting people upon her arrival to the sanctuary. But after a month of acclimating to life in the mountains, she began to cautiously investigate her surroundings. Despite her shyness, Saurya has very much displayed her wild side, as she enjoyed climbing on the roof of the old cabin in the Ambassador enclosure to survey her domain.

Happy New Years to the M:W crew! I was thinking about visiting tomorrow and I thought I might bring some electrical tools. Will Kent be there? Hope to see you all tomorrow, Steve Hannan
Remembering this guy today... Miss you, Abe.

Went to visit today. I always tear up when I hear the howls. We heard Kent talk about how to treat the ambassadors, got a tour from Jake and sat and loved up the wolves. We really miss Magpie. Got to give Abe and Zeb some loves but Nashira wasn’t into us.
Spent Two nights at Mission Wolf! All of us (kids, myself) loved the interaction, learning and the howling! We all want to return soon!
Wolf-ote?
Keep it up Kent, Tracy and Co. Miss you all!
