In my element… Educating children (and adults) about animals they’re usually scared of is my specialty. I love sharing about all the reptiles in my menagerie including the Argentine Black and White tegus, various snakes, and lizards. The discoid roaches are always a hit too 😝 Did you spot the latest addition? A curly-haired tarantula🕷 I’ve named Rapunzel. Have you ever gone to Disney’s Animal Kingdom? When you walk in they have cast members with these little boxes. You go up to them and they teach you about whatever animal is inside. This was one of my favorite things to do on every visit. I would stop at every station. Little did I know that I would be the one doing the teaching in the years to come.

This is my first wild animal encounter. It’s the day my dad and I found an alligator snapping turtle in our backyard. I was 3 years old, and it’s one of my earliest memories. All I wanted to do was carry the turtle, but when I saw the turtle snap a twig with its powerful jaws, I knew better. This is the day I learned to respect nature (or get my finger snapped off)

Welcome! Thanks for following me on my new “edventure.” I’m AJ, a college student, born and raised in Miami. Ever since I can remember, I have loved anything and everything in nature. When I was little, all my favorite books were about bugs, reptiles, or dinosaurs. I watched all the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet shows on repeat. I memorized facts and would tell anyone who would listen all about my favorites. One thing is for sure, I was never afraid of any animal. When classmates would run away from a snake, lizard, or frog, I’d volunteer to catch it and then give the teacher and kids a lesson. A few years ago, I volunteered to give a presentation at my former elementary school’s Career Day and the rest is history. It was exhilarating to teach kids of all ages about animals that they were scared of or grossed out by at first. Nature Edventures will bring a variety of educational adventures to children in Miami. My plan is to present at birthday parties, schools, or even via Zoom. Thanks for following and let’s go on an edventure!
