Our Sweet boy Searno is getting a big boy job ❤️❤️
I know a lot of trainers don’t use drive lines anymore — it’s almost a dying art. But most horses I start get a good bit of drive line work before I ever step in the saddle. It helps them get comfortable with bit pressure and teaches them how to turn, stop, back, and carry the bit — all without a rider on their back.
This gelding is a good example. He’s really sensitive in the mouth, and I’m glad I took the time to drive him. When that bit first makes contact, he’d rather not back up — he’ll toss his head and lift his front end, not out of bad behavior, but because he’s still figuring out what that pressure means.
Groundwork gives a horse the chance to learn safely and confidently before you ever climb on. The more time you put in on the ground, the better that first ride will be. Good training doesn’t start in the saddle — it starts in the dirt. 🤠
