Nail trims are so much more than part of a cosmetic grooming service or something done to protect your hardwood flooring.

Nails long enough to touch the floor make contact before the foot pad does. When the foot loads differently than intended, your pet's stabilizing core -- including the shoulder and hip muscles that maintain posture, protect joints and the spine, and coordinate balance during movement -- is stressed to keep the spine aligned and joints secure against gravity and sudden shifts. Feet are the foundation. Does your pet hesitate to walk on a tiled floor? If the nails are long, it could be like walking on ice.

Senior pets may naturally wear their nails down less and can have more difficulty managing their claws, making routine care particularly valuable.
