Mr. Mister captured everyone's hearts, so we wanted to give you all a quick update.

If you remember where we previously left off, we'd learned that Mr. Mister was very underweight, and needed to put some weight on before he could safely undergo surgery. He'd also started drops to alleviate the pain and inflammation in his eyes.

We are happy to report that not only have the drops reduced the swelling in Mr. Mister's eyelids so drastically that it was determined that surgery wasn't necessary, but he was also ADOPTED by his finder, turned foster, Johnny Shifflett!

Congratulations, Mr. Mister and Johnny!

Any remaining funds donated for Mr. Mister's care will be used toward providing medical care to other shelter animals in need.

Last month we introduced you to Rachel, the pup born without eyes who while waiting for her forever family developed a growth on her leg.

The growth was drained twice, and recurred after both drainages, so soon Rachel will have surgery to remove the growth. Additionally, to determine the cause and if additional treatment will be necessary, tissue from the growth will be sent to a lab for further examination.

In the meantime, Rachel is living it up in her foster home, hanging out with the other pups, and laying in the sunshine.

Can you help us help Rachel?

☀️ Tip Tuesday: Know the Signs of Heat Exhaustion ☀️

Summer walks can be fun, but rising temperatures can quickly become dangerous for our dogs.

Watch for these signs of heat exhaustion:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling more than usual
• Bright red gums or tongue
• Weakness or lethargy
• Stumbling or difficulty walking
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Collapse or unresponsiveness (emergency)

Prevention Tips:
✔ Walk during cooler morning or evening hours
✔ Bring plenty of water
✔ Take frequent shade breaks
✔ Avoid hot pavement that can burn paws
✔ Never leave your dog in a parked car

If you notice signs of heat exhaustion, move your dog to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, and contact your veterinarian right away.

🌡️ A little prevention goes a long way toward keeping your best friend safe this summer!

📌 Save this post for future walks and share it with fellow dog owners.

Bandito is a small pup with a medium sized problem: his heart's too big.

Not in the metaphorical "I care too much, and people take advantage of it" kind of way, but in the "his literal heart is larger than it should be and it's not safe for him to undergo his neuter surgery in this condition" kind of way. To complicate things, for Bandito to be adopted he needs to lose those trouble nuggets. And Bandito would very much like to be adopted.

But, it is just a medium sized problem. Bandito just needs some medication to get his heart issues under control, then it will be safe enough for him to be neutered, and once he's no longer in possession of his trouble nuggets, Bandito can be adopted, and everyone lives happily ever after.

The other half of the issue is, medicine costs money, and Bandito doesn't have any. He's been looking for jobs, but the market's tough right now, especially when you're only about 9 inches tall and don't have thumbs. He tried DoorDash, but dogs aren't allowed in most establishments, so picking up the orders didn't go well. He even tried selling his paw pics, but that was just kind of weird. Can you help him out? https://form-renderer-app.donorperfect.io/give/friends-of-staunton-augusta-waynesboro-animal-shelter/daily-donation-form

Torin's a sweet little old man who needs your help.

This stripey 16 year old went to a foster home recently, where his foster noticed increased drinking and urination. He needs some bloodwork to find out what's going on, and what treatment options there are to get him feeling good and off to a home to live out his golden years.

Can you help us get Torin an appointment so we can get him feeling better? Donate today! https://form-renderer-app.donorperfect.io/give/friends-of-staunton-augusta-waynesboro-animal-shelter/daily-donation-form

Meet Josie. She's a 7 month old Mastiff-Cane Corso mix who came into the shelter after her owners couldn't find a new home for her.

"Wait a minute, that looks and sounds an awful lot like Winnie, who you introduced us to on Tuesday" you might be saying to yourself. She sure does look a whole lot like her sister, even down to the matching cherry eye. ☹️

Can you help us cover the treatment for these sweet, shy sisters?

And hey, if you're not doing anything tomorrow, maybe stop by the shelter and say hi to Josie and Winnie, and all of the other adoptable pets.
