⭐️ Star Student of the Day: Maveryn ⭐️

Today was a fun one—not only because Maveryn crushed another training session, but because I finally got to put the new Meta glasses to work. Being able to capture training from my point of view gives a whole new perspective on what clear communication with a dog actually looks like.

Today’s sequence was exactly what we want to see:
✔️ Here
✔️ Front sit
✔️ Side heel

Then I left Maveryn in a remote sit, walked away from him, and gave him another here command. He came straight in, hit another clean front sit, and finished perfectly into side heel.

Calm. Focused. Confident.

He’s getting ready to head home next week, but first there’s one more important test—a trip to Petco. Real-world training is where everything comes together. We’ll make sure he walks politely through a public store, ignores distractions, and remains responsive around people and other dogs. He couldn’t be more lucky to have a such an amazing owner, and this is going to be just what she needs to make life that much more enjoyable with her best friend. 🐾

What a time to be alive. 🤯

Apparently, I reached the age where I have to admit I can’t see very well anymore (if I’m being honest I haven’t been able to see that good since I was 13)… especially anything farther than about 20 feet. 😂

So if I needed new prescription glasses anyway, I figured I might as well get the ones that can film everything I’m seeing too.

And honestly… I think these are going to change the game for The Working Dog Co.

For the first time, you’ll get to see dog training exactly as I see it.

No more trying to explain what happened from behind the camera. No more missing the little details that make all the difference. You’ll be right there with me—watching dogs make decisions in real time, seeing how I communicate, how I read them, when I apply pressure, when I release it, and why timing is everything.

From puppy development and obedience to the fetch process, bird introductions, advanced retriever work, and behavioral rehabilitation, you’ll experience every step through my eyes.

This isn’t just going to make better content—it’ll make better dog owners.

Imagine being able to replay your own training session from my perspective. Seeing exactly what I saw. Understanding why I made a correction, why I waited, why I praised, or why I repeated something. That’s an incredible learning tool, and I can’t wait to start using it with my clients.

Technology is moving fast, and I’m always looking for ways to give my clients the absolute best experience possible. I truly believe this is the future of documenting dog training.

We’re just getting started… and I think you’re going to love what’s coming.

Working Dog Wednesday 💪🏼

Steadiness isn’t flashy—but it’s one of the most important traits a finished retriever can have.

Boomer makes it look easy.

Jumping, gunfire, ripping duck calls, birds falling… none of it matters until he’s given permission. That’s what real steadiness looks like. It’s not about suppressing drive—it’s about teaching a dog to control it until it’s time to perform.

The best retrievers aren’t the ones that react the fastest. They’re the ones that stay composed under pressure and explode into action only when asked.

Power when it’s time. Patience until it’s time.

People often think obedience is about having the “right person” on the other end of the leash.

It isn’t.

This is an 8-year-old girl I met on a sandbar. Within minutes, she had Chaos sitting patiently, waiting for the throw, and releasing only when she said his name.

That’s what real training looks like.

Obedience isn’t about force. It’s about communication, consistency, and clarity. When a dog truly understands what’s being asked, they don’t need to guess who’s holding the leash—they simply understand the expectation.

The goal has never been to create dogs that only listen to the trainer.

The goal is to create dogs that listen because they understand.

🐾 Working Dog Wednesday 🐾

Meet Storm. ⛈️

Storm came to us after her family welcomed a new baby back in February. Like many dogs, she wasn’t lacking love—she was struggling with anxiety, becoming overstimulated, and deciding when commands were worth listening to. As life changes, those little issues can quickly become big ones.

Breed matters. Genetics matter. But leadership, structure, and training matter too. Every breed has different instincts, drives, and personalities. Understanding the dog in front of you—and giving them clear communication with consistent expectations—is what creates reliability.

Storm has already made incredible progress. She’s becoming calmer, more confident, and learning that commands don’t change based on her mood or the environment around her. That’s the power of building a common language between dog and owner, and why I preach the proper way to e-collar condition, and then utilize the e-collar in all walks of life.

I can’t wait to see the confidence and peace of mind Storm brings back home to her family.

Another one headed home. 💪🏼

Yesterday was Rambo’s one-on-one go-home session, where we put everything together and made sure his owner knew exactly how to communicate everything he’s learned.

Watching it all click is one of the most rewarding parts of the process. Rambo absolutely crushed it—calm, attentive, and confident. Even more rewarding was watching Maddi gain the confidence and knowledge to continue building on that foundation every single day.

One thing we talked about during Rambo’s go-home session was that Maddi had already done a great job with him. The foundation was there. The missing piece wasn’t teaching commands—it was having a dependable way to reinforce them in the real world. Through proper e-collar conditioning, we bridged that gap. Rambo now understands that the expectations stay the same, whether he’s in the backyard or surrounded by distractions. Maddi now has a reliable way to communicate with him, giving them both the confidence to succeed wherever they go.

Thank you, Maddi, for trusting The Working Dog Co. with Rambo. Seeing the transformation in both dog and owner is what this is all about. I can’t wait to watch you two continue to grow together.

You know what day it is… 💪🏼🐾

Working Dog Wednesday!

Meet Lainey. ❤️

Lainey came to us after being adopted from the Humane Society. Like many rescue dogs, she came with an unknown past and a fresh start ahead of her. That past doesn’t define who she can become—it simply means we start by building trust, confidence, and clear communication.

Since starting training, Lainey has been collar conditioned, has learned a reliable here, and has a dependable remote sit. Watching her confidence grow with each session has been incredibly rewarding, and she’s proving that rescue dogs are just as capable of becoming dependable companions.

Every dog has potential. Sometimes they just need someone willing to show them the way.

🐾 Working Dog Wednesday 🐾

One of my favorite things about working with dogs is seeing how different breeds were created for different jobs—and how those jobs still influence their personalities today.

Some dogs are naturally driven to retrieve, some to point, some to herd, some to guard, and some simply to be close companions. Understanding what a dog was bred to do helps us better understand why they think, learn, and behave the way they do.

That’s why training isn’t a one-size-fits-all process. Every dog brings a different set of instincts, strengths, and challenges to the table.

And that’s exactly what we’re doing with this gorgeous GSP 😍. Maveryn is here for basic obedience, and the first week is always about building a relationship, establishing trust, and creating a bond. A strong foundation makes everything that follows more successful.

I’m looking forward to getting him collar-conditioned, sharpening up his obedience, and having him walking perfectly beside his owner with confidence and clarity by the time he’s ready to go home.

Watching dogs develop into the best version of themselves, while staying true to what makes their breed unique, is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Happy Working Dog Wednesday from The Working Dog Co. LLC. 🐾

Proof that a solid foundation creates dogs that can do just about anything. Chaos’ first time on a surfboard. 🌊🐾

Dak’s last step in the fetch process before shooting his first bird. Clean, confident, and exactly what we were looking for on a live clip-wing pigeon.

Good dogs aren’t built in a day—they’re built through a process. Every step matters, and Dak has earned the right to move on to the next one 😍
