🌟 Extern Highlight 🌟
We’ve had the pleasure of hosting our third-year extern student, Dr. Jason, from the University of Glasgow! 🇬🇧 With a strong interest in surgery and anesthesia, Dr. Jason jumped right into our busy caseload here at PriorityPet.

Under the guidance of Dr. Holder, who has a true passion for teaching,he gained valuable experience practicing client communication, fine-tuning his ultrasound skills, strengthening physical exams, and even getting hands-on surgery opportunities .🩺✨

We truly enjoyed having him with us and are so proud of the hard work and dedication he showed during his time here. Please join us in wishing Dr. Jason the very best of luck on the NAVLE! 🍀👏

🐾 Eye Injuries in Pets – Why That Green Stain Matters! 👁💚
This pet’s eye has been stained with fluorescein dye to help us diagnose a corneal ulcer — a scratch or defect on the surface of the eye. The green areas show where the stain is absorbed into the injured cornea.

Why it’s serious:
Corneal ulcers can be very painful and, if left untreated, can worsen quickly — even leading to vision loss.

Treatment includes:
✅ Prescription eye medications to fight infection and promote healing
✅ An e-collar (cone) to prevent rubbing or scratching the eye
✅ Pain relief when needed
✅ Close rechecks to ensure the ulcer is healing properly

If your pet is squinting, tearing, pawing at their eye, or you notice cloudiness or redness — they should be examined right away. Early treatment = faster healing and better comfort for your pet! 🐶🐱

🐍 Snake Bites & Your Pet: What You Need to Know 🐾

Warmer weather means more snake sightings and unfortunately, more snake bites in curious pets. Copperheads are one of the most common venomous snakes we see in our area, and bites can quickly become a life-threatening emergency.

Venom can cause severe swelling, intense pain, tissue damage, clotting issues, and even shock. Rapid treatment is crucial to reduce the risk of complications.

At PriorityPet Urgent Care, we are able to check their clotting factor times and we carry antivenom to treat venomous snake bites to help give pets the best possible chance at recovery.

📸 In this photo, our technician Tara is closely monitoring a patient receiving antivenom after a run-in with a copperhead. Because antivenom is given slowly and can cause reactions, continuous monitoring is essential during administration.

If your pet is bitten by a snake:
🚨 Stay calm and seek urgent veterinary care.
⛔ Do NOT apply a tourniquet or attempt to suck out the venom.
📞 Call us immediately at 706-480-2601 so we can prepare for your arrival.

We’re here when it matters most — Thurs–Mon, 4 PM to 12 AM 🐶🐱
