Horse – The Soul Companion of the Earth
You are not a beast.
You are wind, made flesh — the ancient heartbeat of the Earth.
When the Creator exhaled the first breath of life,
You galloped across the meadows of light,
And the sky bowed as your hooves kissed the newborn land.
You came with no reins,
Carrying a strength that does not roar —
But stands firm like mountains,
And flows gentle like mist.
The fire in your eyes is not rage —
It is memory,
The sacred flame born from the stars before names were spoken.
Each step you take is a sacred word,
A spell of life whispered into soil and soul alike.
You do not serve —
You walk beside.
No one owns you,
For you are freedom incarnate,
The song of wild forests,
The breath of untamed plains.
You do not carry people forward —
You carry their spirits home.
When the warrior is lost in the smoke of the world,
It is you — with a heart of thunder and hooves of wind —
Who leads them back
To where fear cannot follow,
To where truth rises like morning mist on sacred ground.
The People did not ride you —
They listened to you.
In your whinny lives the fire of ancestors,
In your stride flows the blood of the Earth, singing.
You are the Guardian of Freedom,
The Bearer of Balance,
The Spirit of Destiny.
You have never been merely "a horse" —
You are the Twilight Deity in motion,
The Companion of every sacred journey.

Secretariat’s owner, Penny Chenery, would be the first to admit that breeding horses is a genetic crapshoot. She said that Secretariat, “next to having my children, was the most remarkable event in my life. But he was not my creation or accomplishment. We just got lucky.” Secretariat’s full sister, in filly called The Bride, was a fine broodmare but did nothing on the track.
When a great one like Secretariat comes along, we feel as if a blessing has been bestowed upon us. And it has. A great comet has streaked across a black sky and we happen to have been walking along a dark country road and seen the celestial rarity in all its brilliance. We will tell our grandchildren what a marvel it was, one that made us feel small and exalted at the same time. While that comet burned and cast its shimmering light, the world seemed a more beautiful place, and it felt good to be alive.

“Horses don’t have a gallbladder. Because of this, horses’ livers only secrete bile acids, salts, and buffers when stimulated by consumption of food. Horses with an empty stomach for a prolonged period of time are more prone to ulcers because the stomach continually releases stomach acid, regardless of whether or not food is consumed. The buffering agents which neutralize this acid are only released when food is consumed. Do not let your horse go more than 6 hours without eating.
