Creed came to me with some pretty significant stranger danger and fear reactivity. Anytime he saw someone unfamiliar, he felt like he had to bark and lunge to make them go away. Before his board and train, even something as routine as their cleaning lady coming into the house would result in Creed following her around, barking and displaying pretty much every sign of fear reactivity. We worked HARD on building his confidence, teaching him how to exist neutrally around people, and showing him that he doesn’t have to react to every person he’s unsure of.
Then I got this message from his mom today. 🥹 Their cleaning lady came over for the first time since Creed finished training, and instead of following her around barking, he was able to settle himself, calmly check her out, and then simply coexist with her. His mom said, “It’s like we have a new dog.”
Messages like this will never get old. I’m so incredibly grateful that I get to do this for a living and help make changes that genuinely improve not only the dog’s life, but their family’s life too. Seeing a dog go from feeling like they have to react to everyone around them to having the confidence to simply exist and feel safe is exactly why I love what I do. 🥹💚

SIT PRETTY CANINE JUST GOT A REFRESH!
I’ve been working behind the scenes to revamp our programs, and I’m SO excited to finally share them with you!
Along with new program options, I’ve made some changes to make the training process even more hands on for owners and help everything we teach transfer into real life at home.

• Weekend home visits
Dogs will come home on the weekends so you can start practicing what they’ve learned while they’re still actively in training. This gives you the chance to put everything into practice at home, see what questions come up, and then send them back so we can continue building on it.

• Weekly owner lessons
Before your dog heads home for the weekend, we’ll have a lesson together so you know exactly what they’ve learned, how to handle them, and what to work on at home. Instead of waiting until the very end of the program to learn everything at once, you’ll be learning right alongside your dog throughout the process.

My goal has always been to train both ends of the leash, and these changes give owners even more involvement throughout their dog’s training.

Your dog might not need MORE exercise… they might need to learn how to do absolutely nothing.
We hear it all the time: “A tired dog is a good dog!” & that’s absolutely true, HOWEVER, constantly trying to tire your dog out can actually create a dog who expects to be entertained all day long.

Walks. Fetch. Daycare. Puzzle toys. Training. Playtime. Another walk. More fetch.
Then the second nothing is happening… they’re pacing, whining, shoving toys into your lap, following you from room to room, barking for attention, or getting into things.
Sometimes the answer isn’t more stimulation. It’s teaching your dog that being bored is okay.

Dogs need to learn how to turn their brains OFF just as much as they need physical and mental exercise.
Try to incorporate things like:

• Place while you’re busy: Cook dinner, clean the house, watch TV, or work while your dog learns to settle nearby.

• Tether time: Keep them near you without constantly interacting with them. They can watch, relax, and eventually realize there’s nothing they need to be doing.

• Structured downtime after activity: After a walk, play session, or training, give them an opportunity to decompress instead of immediately finding the next activity.

• Crate naps: Especially for puppies or dogs that have serious FOMO and won’t voluntarily put themselves to sleep.

• Go somewhere and do… nothing: Sit on a park bench, hang out outside, or bring them somewhere dog friendly. They don’t need to greet everyone or constantly explore. Let them practice simply existing around the world.

And one of the easiest things you can do?
Stop feeling guilty when your dog is bored!
You are not your dog’s cruise director. They don’t need an activity planned for every waking minute.
A dog who knows how to run, play, train AND then come home and peacefully do absolutely nothing is a much easier dog to live with.
Calmness is a skill, and just like obedience, it has to be practiced.🧡🩵
