Our world lost a very special woman yesterday. Joni Nelson was with Boston's Forgotten Felines where we adopted Vincent and now Lucy and Ethel. Joni was an amazing woman and would give everything she had to help a cat. So many cats lives were touched by Joni and so many of us in rescue were touched by Joni. I was an active volunteer with BFF until we moved to Western MA and help when I can. Please hug your loved ones, Friends and anyone special in your life. Make sure they know you love them and that they are appreciated. Joni was one heck of a person and I am blessed that Vincent brought Joni into our lives.
It is with profound sadness that we let you know that our founder, Joni Nelson, has passed away.
The world lost a true friend, a partner, an aunt, a cousin, a rescuer, a great story teller, and probably the best fur-mom any cat could ask for. For decades, Joni has been saving thousands upon thousands of cats. She even saved a dog or two in her time. Everyone has different beliefs of what happens after death, but all of us animal lovers hope that there truly is a Rainbow Bridge. And if there is no doubt that her two favorite ferals Cindy and Lulu were the first to meet her, but maybe Jojo knocked them out of the way so he could get her first snuggle.
As others have stated about Joni:
“…she was a light in so much darkness”
“…she was the best of us”
“We lost such an amazing person + friend. What a hole she leaves.”
“She would have given you the shirt off of her back for those she loved.”
“all the best souls are leaving this earth it seems”
“She was a fearless fighter for so many.”
“It's really hard to put into words how special a person Joni was.”
In the coming days we will share information with you about an upcoming Celebration of Life. Also, in her honor and her legacy, Boston’s Forgotten Felines will continue for the time being. We hope her friends and BFF followers will help us share our cats to find them the best of homes as that would be the greatest gift to Joni.
