Puppy Potty Training Guide
We begin potty training at 4 weeks old by introducing grass potty pads and crate training with a heated blanket. Your puppy will go home on the same schedule we use here. Consistency is the key to success.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Puppy Den Setup
• Follow the puppy den setup instructions provided.
2. Overnight Routine
• Do not wake up with your puppy during the night.
• Responding at night creates long-term bad habits.
3. Crying in the Crate
• Puppies often cry in a new home. This is normal.
• To help soothe your puppy:
• Use a sound machine
• Cover the crate with a sheet or crate cover
• Offer a high-value treat only for going into the crate or puppy den
4. Potty Schedule
• Take your puppy to the potty area after every meal and after waking.
• Offer excited praise for successful potty time.
• You may mark the potty area with a small yard flag for consistency.
5. Crate Training
• Keep the crate door open overnight until your puppy can hold it through the night.
• Do not use grass pads overnight once your puppy can hold it.
6. Outdoor Feeding Routine- this works!
• Feed all meals outside when possible.
• Sit outside with your puppy (coffee or snack time works well).
• After eating, immediately go to the potty area.

Important Notes
• Use a crate that is big enough for your puppy to stand and turn around, but not so large that one side can be used as a bathroom.
• Use the crate for naps and bedtime. Always take your puppy outside immediately after waking.
• If you cannot supervise closely during the day, use a gated puppy playpen for safe rest and play.
• Accidents will happen. Do not scold. Clean up and increase outside potty breaks.
With patience, structure, and positive reinforcement, your puppy will adjust quickly.
