🎨🐾 A BIG thank you to Sam at Big City Paints for donating paint to our shelter! 🐶🐸

Thanks to Sam's generosity, our beloved wiener dog and frog statues got a fresh new coat and are looking better than ever. 💛 It’s the little touches like this that help make our shelter a brighter, more welcoming place for visitors, adopters, and of course, our animals.

We’re so grateful for your support of WCAS and the work we do! To our community: go visit Sam for all your paint needs!

What should we name our weiner dog and frogs? 🤔

🍁 Fall is here, and so are cooler temps and colorful leaves! Tessa, Aurora, and Lola enjoyed a walk at Happy Hollow Park and it’s a good reminder to keep our pets safe this season:

🐾 Watch for toxic mushrooms, wet leaves, and acorns
🧥 Short-haired or senior pets may need a light jacket
👣 Check paw pads for cracks or dryness
💉 Don’t forget that flea, tick, and heartworm prevention is still important!

Update: we were just trying to keep this post light-hearted but we obviously know this is a serious matter and are handling it accordingly.

Our favorite Husky Houdini is at it again — this adventurous lady has managed to outsmart fences, gates, and maybe even gravity itself. That’s right, she’s found her way to the shelter seven times in less than a year!

🐺💼 At this point, we’re thinking about giving her her own office here.

Huskies are famous for two things: their beauty and their love of running. 🐾💨 This girl takes both very seriously. Her family has reclaimed her every single time, but we’re crossing our fingers that some extra reinforcements — taller fences, sturdier locks, or maybe a touch of Husky-proof magic ✨ — will help keep her safe at home where she belongs.

We’ll always be here to make sure she’s safe when her wanderlust kicks in, but let’s all hope this is the last reunion at the shelter — because her adventures should be with her family, not with us! 💙

🎉 Big News! 🎉

Our Board President has officially adopted her second kitten from WCAS - Davis is now a Morris 😉!

We all used our best negotiation skills to convince her incredible husband… but we all know the kittens won in the end! 😹

Congrats on your growing furry family — we can’t wait to see all the mischief they get into! 🐱🐱

🌸 In Loving Memory of Cherry 🌸

Our sweet senior girl Cherry’s journey with breast cancer came to an end this week. Surrounded by love and kindness, she peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge. 💕

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Quinn, DVM, who opened her heart and home to foster Cherry during her final days. Because of her compassion, Cherry knew comfort, care, and unconditional love when she needed it most.

Cherry’s years blessed the world with her gentle spirit, and while saying goodbye is never easy, her memory will forever remain in our hearts. Run free, sweet girl. 🐾🌈

Wabash County Animal Shelter 101

We have compiled some important information about the Wabash County Animal Shelter (WCAS) that seems to be unknown or misunderstood by the public.

We are a Limited Admittance Shelter. We are no longer a Kill shelter. Let us explain why. In a Kill shelter, perfectly healthy loving adoptable animals are put down to make room for another animal to have a temporary place to stay. It might be your loving lost animal that gets put down so another animal can take its place in the shelter.
