Adopt Porter 🍷💗

This poor girl has had a really rough go at trying to find a forever home 🥺 she had a TON of applications, but sadly none of them have worked out and she has now been waiting 3 months for her forever family 💔

Her brother was adopted a few weeks ago, so now it’s her turn!

About Porter ⬇️

⭐️ 5.5 Months old
⭐️ Miniature Schnauzer (full grown size of 18-20lbs)
⭐️ Mild Case of Megaesophagus - this means she MUST eat upright in a custom built Bailey chair (this will go with her when she is adopted!) 4 times a day and stay in it for about 25-30 min after eating
⭐️ Fully Crate Trained
⭐️ Fully Vaccinated
⭐️ Good foundation on potty training
⭐️ LOVES dogs and cats
⭐️ LOVES kids and all people
⭐️ AMAZING in the car
⭐️ A huge snuggle bug that just wants to be loved

What we are looking for in her forever family ⬇️

⭐️ MUST live within 2hrs of Worcester, MA
⭐️ MUST be able to feed her 4 times a day - this does not necessarily mean you have to work from home, but have the flexibility or the support system (family, dog sitter, etc) that would be able to help cover mid day feedings
⭐️ MUST be willing to stay in close contact with us as her rescue after adoption for updates and as a resource for any help needed

Interested in applying?!

Go to the link below and fill out the application! We will reach out to you once it has been received ❤️

Happy belated birthday to Skippy Jon Wobbles 🩵

This boy turned a year old 🙌🏼 which is remarkable considering how severe his hydrocephalus is. (We have a post with his MRI in our feed)

We never know how long they will live and what their life will look like. For Skippy, he does all the things a kitty can do, but with some extra sparkle ✨

He has added joy to our home and is the perfect soul mate to Kuromi our other special needs kitty (see the video on this post for their magic 🪄 of cuteness)

A huge thank you to .ydrawing and .shade for this beautiful drawing of Skippy. Go give them a follow and have your own pet portrait done ❤️

Also thank you to .dogfather for the follow. I would have never seen this artist and reached out without scrolling through your posts!

Spay ✅ one less worry for Taffy Honeybuns

Our sweet girl was spayed this week. Her skin is such a project that I’ve been putting it off.😫

But the Vet agreed it’s time to get it done! We got to look inside her mouth and recheck her abscess at the same time. All looks clear and no more swelling.

It’s such an honor to be in this profession and be able to be there the whole day with a foster. She was an absolute perfect patient 👌🏼

Now we are recovering and back on meds for her skin. We are looking into a dermatologist consult so we can figure this out for her.

Send all the healing vibes our way ❤️‍🩹

Taffy has her own wishlist if you have the ability to donate.

Oh Taffy! Her spay is scheduled for tomorrow and this foster mom needs all the positive vibes! 🙏🏼

She will be in great hands, but it’s still nerve wracking knowing she’s going under anesthesia again. We will be having them take a look at her abscess she had in her mouth a few weeks ago to make sure they don’t see anything new coming up.

Taffy still won’t be available for adoption until we get her skin figured out. It is a work in progress, but at least we don’t have to worry about her going into heat and possibly having a pyometra🤯

I’ll keep everyone updated on her recovery ❤️‍🩹

Meet the small but mighty team of
🐾 Veterinary Technicians for Cleft Affected Animals lovingly referred to as Techs for Clefts

Hi! I’m Courtney. I’m the CEO and founder of our organization and I’m the person behind this page🤗 I started it as a way to help vet med professionals learn about neonates with congenital defects. Over the years it’s evolved into a nonprofit organization that is now saving lives on two sides of the United States 🤯
I’m a Registered Veterinary Technician who has been in the field for over 20 years now. I currently work in shelter medicine at a rural animal control.

Kyle is our CFO and the East Coast Foster. She started out in vet med and graduated college with the intention of going to Vet School, but her life took her in a whole new direction! This has lead her to be able to help so many animals though! From puppies to kittens to even goats 🙌🏼 She works hard teaching others how to tube feed and guiding them through all the stages of neonatal care. 🩷

Sarah is our secretary of our rescue. She works behind the scenes keeping us in order for what our mission is and where we go with our rescue. She has been in vet med for over twenty years now as well (also as an RVT) and is currently working in large animal medicine 🐮 Sarah has a beautiful farm full of amazing flowers, blueberries and the cutest critters!

Fun fact: we all worked at the same vet clinic together! That’s how we got to know each other. Both Sarah and Kyle were there when I saved my first cleft puppy, Lucas (aka Pablo) ❤️

This rescue eats up a lot of our free time, but it’s worth it when we see how many animals are getting a chance bc we have educated and provided support for their owners. This was definitely not on my agenda when I thought of where I would be in my forties. 😅 but it’s really cool seeing it become its own entity out there in the world inspiring others to help animals 🥰

Meet Barnaby’s foster brother Eaton⚾️💙

Recently you all fell in love with my foster Barnaby 🇬🇧, but I also want you to meet his equally adorable foster brother!

Both Barnaby and Eaton were born with a cleft lip and cleft palate, and from my posts you can see that these boys are happy thriving puppies 🐾

BUT the sad truth is most animals born with cleft lips/palates are still euthanized at birth simply because of their clefts 😞

A cleft is called a midline defect and when an animal is born with one midline defect (like a cleft), they have an increased chance of having another midline defect such as a heart condition. So in the past, it was always recommended to euthanize them rather than give them a chance…

However, NOT all clefts have other midline defects and MANY go on to lead happy and healthy lives (just go check our page to see all our happy ever afters ❤️) so to think that so many puppies who could have lived amazing lives are euthanized, simply because they had a cleft is heartbreaking!

We love sharing our fosters, because yes they are cute 🥹 but we also truly hope to raise awareness of the incredible lives these puppies can live if just given a chance at life ❤️

If you want to help us save more animals like Barnaby and Eaton, PLEASE continue to share our posts! Talk about cleft animals with your friends and family! YOU can help spread awareness and by sharing posts and having conversations, you can help us reach more people and help save more animals ❤️
