Pictures from around the farm the past week and two inside pics from our last farrier day.

We are over summer here. The hot & buggy weather moved back in this week and keeping up with washing sweaty fly sheets & masks is getting out of hand. Fortunately, our sea breeze didn't fail us yesterday and today but Monday & Tuesday everone was in for a siesta under the fans in the afternoon. Hopefully, we can get all the fly gear packed up soon for a good end of season pro wash with our wonderful "blanket lady", Emmy. The horses & humans are ready for fall!

We were spared the heavy rain the areas surrounding us received over the past few days. We got just enough to water the pastures, let everyone get a good dirty roll in, and bring out the flies.

These three are a hit together! Freedom is adjusting well to the loss of his pasture pal. Now we have to work on finding poor Angel a new pasture buddy.....

It is with a heavy heart I report that we lost another of our long term residents yesterday. Romeo was 33. He first came to us in 2008 after retiring from a career as an AA circuit children's jumper. He stayed with us a few years, then returned to his family's farm when they stopped breeding hunter ponies. He, and his "brother" Splendid returned to us in 2014 when their owners sold their farm.

What started as acting "not quite right" and mild unilateral epistaxis became a full on emergency yesterday afternoon. We are so grateful Dr. Yankus was able to make it to us quickly. A definitive diagnosis was not possible under the circumstances but it was evident that there was a bleed internally somewhere. The kindest thing to do was to euthanize him.

Romeo was the easiest guy ever! Nothing fazed him and he had the absolute best manners. Our deepest condolences to his family. Gallop on buddy, Splendid's waiting for you. We will see you again one day....

We had the farrier yesterday for Touch, Edie, Angel, Al & Cardi. Sorry, no pictures this visit. Jamin will be back next week for the second group of horses.

Romeo & Freedom

Freedom is happy he gets to go without his muzzle for the day! It tends to get clogged with wet grass and he gets frustrated and tries to get the muzzle off. He has not had any episodes of Cushings related laminitis since starting on a traditional Chinese medicine product recommended by Dr. Yankus (who, in addition to being a DVM is also trained in acupuncture and TCM). Enjoy the moment buddy!

Besties Gem & Given enjoying a good morning groom. It's a breezy day....perfect time to wash fly masks. Hoping the breeze keeps up and everyone gets several hours of turnout with the heat.
