Eighteen years old, and left behind.
Eighteen years old and surrendered. Handed over with the explanation that there just wasn’t time for her anymore.
And so, nearly two decades into her life, Samone found herself in a shelter. Frail. Frightened, and worst of all, in terrible pain.
Her coat was so matted it had tightened around her limbs, restricting her ability to walk. She had to move in short, choppy steps—like a puppet with tangled strings. Her teeth were rotting, infected, and causing so much pain she could barely eat. She was painfully thin, likely from weeks or months of struggling to get food down. Her breath smelled of decay. An impacted a**l gland made even sitting uncomfortable.
This was an emergency.
We shaved the mats. We treated the impaction. We completed bloodwork, and we moved fast to perform an emergency dental procedure to relieve her suffering. Multiple extractions were needed. Her infection had clearly been brewing for a long time.
She is finally resting now—clean, more comfortable, able to move freely for the first time in who knows how long.
But her care wasn’t simple.
We are hoping to raise $800 to help cover the cost of Samone’s medical treatment—and to be ready for the next fragile soul who comes through our doors needing urgent care.
