We’ve got tort babies! Looks like a blue tort, a black fox, and a blue/lilac fox. I honestly can’t tell on the third one, what do you think… blue or lilac?

Some of you know about my little genetics project, to create an upright cylindrical lilac tort rabbit for their fur. The first F1 litter is now 8 weeks old. With the help of several other breeders, I have a solid idea of what I’m looking for in these evaluations.

The goal is to create a 5-7.5 pound blocky upright cylindrical fur breed. The body should be strong, broad, and short. Think very compact. They should stand medium high to show off nice strong and straight front legs, but not too high. Key word is medium. I prefer the European look of the fluffy rabbits, there in lies the fur part, including the rounded face and thick ears. I also prefer the ears to carry in a V-shape and be between 3.5-4.5 inches. The goal with the fur is to be very similar in texture and density to the blue holicers. Really, the more dense the better. Similar in the way beaver pelts are so sought after because of their super dense fur.

This litter is a cross between a blue tort mini Rex and a blue holicer, so they all carry tort which is the end goal for color. I chose the Rex fur to help with the density of coat and that is a trait that only shows when both parents have it. Unlike some satin fur showing through on carriers.

The main thing I’ve noticed with this litter is weak ankles, a1 is the best, and when a6 cooperates her ankles aren’t awful. All of them have thinner ears from the mini rex, but I like how they all carry into a V more than holicers do. Small steps in the right direction!

Well, 2HB12 didn’t get the memo. I gave him ample time to chill out, but alas, he continued to be super aggressive. So… ...

Well, 2HB12 didn’t get the memo. I gave him ample time to chill out, but alas, he continued to be super aggressive. So… when I have time, he will be my first full body rabbit mount
