Some more babies from the past few days.

One litter is a blue sallander crossed to a lilac tort, plus a black tort from another mama. Pretty sure the 4 on the left are sallanders and the 3 are blue tort.

The other litter is an ermine crossed to a blue carrying tort. Looks to me that there’s 1 chestnut, 1 opal, 3 red/orange, and 4 rews or ermines. Obviously won’t know until they open their eyes.

Wow wow wow! Awesome day to be a palomino!! My sr buck pulled off a BIS and a RIS today🥳 Aside from that I think this was one of the most fun shows I’ve been to with a lot of my rabbit friends! Super tough competition all around and some really beautiful rabbits that fully deserve their wins! There were 88 white NZs alone, not including the coloreds. Some super promising palomino jrs I’ll have to watch out for in the future from Pfef’s Pals lol.

—I also took some young jr bucks and for the most part got comments I agree with. Both need more time to grow

New Zealand:
—Placings varied quite a bit depending on the judge. But most notable was my 6/8 buck (2HN36) placing 1st of 16 for show D. Several other top 4 placings with my others.

Let’s talk torts since my barn is slowly being overrun with them, all on purpose, mind you! Lol.

What is a tort rabbit? Tort is slang for tortoiseshell, a specific color variety due to the non-extension allele “ee.” This allele is recessive and when expressed, stops the dark pigment from spreading all the way up the long hair shafts, leaving a lighter color in its place.

Tort as a self variety “aa” comes in black, blue, chocolate, and lilac. Tort can also be expressed in tan varieties “at” and create fox. Complicating things even further, adding dark shaded “c(chd)” creates sallanders and light shaded “c(chl)” creates sable points! Each of which can also be black, blue, chocolate, or lilac.

Apparently the universe doesn’t want me to be done with tan hares because I spy 3! Lol. This was a rufus x rufus pairing. I knew the buck carried tan, but I guess the doe does as well

Maybe I’m just a dork, but I think it’s pretty neat to see rex fur right beside normal fur on babies so young. Can you guess which is which?

Came home to 3 more litters!

-THYR, bred to AA33C, had 5 holicer babies.

-SAFFRON, bred to 2HB6, had 12 Rufus babies! One was DOA

-b1 (F1 beige), bred to a1 (F1 beige), had 7 F2 beige babies. 1 rew, 2 blue tort, and 4 blue. Since both parents were only tort carriers, keeping anything not tort isn’t a good idea, as it may not carry it. So the only keepers of this litter will be the 2 blue torts. And that’s before knowing if either of them have normal or rex fur, since both parents also carry that.

2HB2 (bred to Fuller’s 5) had 4 rufus babies today. She had a huge belly so I thought it was going to be a big litter. Instead she had absolute UNITS! These are some of the biggest babies I’ve had in a while lol
