A double whammy post for y’all today! 🌸🌼
Please give a warm welcome to Cotton and Sadie! These girls are heading to foster homes soon, where they will decompress and adjust to the oh-so-luxurious foster lifestyle. Seriously, our hounds are spoiled. As they should be. ☝
Cotton (black & tan snoot) is a 2.5-year-old female from SC who could use a little help with her manners. She will also get a full medical workup as we learn more about this sweet girl and find her the perfect furever home. We're still on the search for an NC or SC foster home though, so if you're interested, fill out our app below! 🌸
Sadie (not to be confused with our other two Sadies 😅) will also get some behavioral support. She's a tricolor beauty who enjoys nibbling on things she shouldn't, but this 2-year-old NC gal is sure to settle into her foster home just fine. 🌼
Remember, our foster families receive priority to adopt once our hounds are medically cleared. If you are potentially interested in adopting Cotton, Sadie, or any of the other hounds on our website, we highly recommend submitting an adoption application today. We urgently need a foster home for these parters in crime! A kind lady found them wandering near Raleigh, and they need a new safe space as soon as possible, in either NC or SC. (Don't worry, we have a transport team that can help!😉) With a little time and love, we're sure they’ll settle in beautifully!👫

It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share that our Max has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈💔
Just a few short weeks ago, his post went up on social media that he was almost ready for adoption. He was so close to finding his forever home, which makes this loss even more heartbreaking.
What initially seemed like a manageable sickness quickly turned into something far more serious. After evaluation, it was determined that he was suffering from a severe spleen issue that progressed rapidly, and his prognosis was very poor. His condition declined quickly, and we had to say goodbye far sooner than we ever imagined.
These are the moments that never, ever get easier. Saying goodbye hurts deeply. The news always hits like a truck, and the posts never get easier to write. Even for those of us who didn’t know Max personally, it hits hard, because we know the pain and empathize with those suffering. We know that Max deserved so much more in this life.
But what brings us comfort is knowing how deeply Max was loved, especially by his incredible foster mom, Leigh, one of our MVP foster parents. She advocated for him, cared for him, and made sure he was never alone. Because of her, Max knew safety, comfort, and love, especially in his final chapter, and that means everything.
Max deserved so much more time, and we are devastated that he didn’t get it. But we are grateful that he didn’t suffer and that he was surrounded by people who loved him until the very end.
Run free, sweet boy. You were so, so loved. ❤️🌈🐾

Quick update on our Lucky Hound Fundraiser! 🍀

We hope you all enjoyed that pleasant bout of good weekend weather we had because it seems the rain is back again big time this week… and the basset shower is still coming down over here! 🐾☔ My own hounds aren't the biggest fans of this weather, if you can't already tell from their facial expressions! (😒+😦)

Between the recent intakes and the medical care our current hounds need, we’re still working through quite the storm. But thankfully the pups came prepared with their proverbial raincoats (that may be a bit snug but hey who's judging?).

Well we don’t know what’s going on with the weather lately, but 2026 started with a serious Basset downpour… and it’s not even April yet!🌧️

January brought an unusually heavy intake of hounds into our care, each one arriving with their own medical needs and behavior history. From diagnostics and medications to surgeries and ongoing treatment, the financial need right now is seriously significant.

But if there’s one thing we know about this community… when the hounds need help, you SHOW UP. 🫶💙🤎

Your donation today helps us:
- Provide critical medical care for the hounds currently in rescue
- Cover diagnostics, medications, spay/neuter surgeries, and preventatives

📢 Foster Home Needed for Honey B 📢

Honey B is a beautiful 9-year-old girl looking for a very special and specific NC or SC foster home. 🐝

Because she was primarily an outdoor dog her whole life and was never properly socialized, she never learned how to interact appropriately with other dogs, aside from her brother Biscuit who has since passed. 💔 She does have reactivity toward other dogs, so she must be the only pet in the home.

Honey B is also easily startled, so she would do best in a quiet, adult-only home without children. She needs a calm, patient, and understanding person who can provide structure, consistency, and reassurance as she adjusts during this big transition.

🟡🚦 - WILL BE READY FOR ADOPTION SOON!
Max is almost ready to hit the road to his forever home and would like to remind everyone he is, in fact, quite good looking. 😎🚘

Max came to CBHR in August 2025 and has made his mark since being here! He’s 7 years young and is crate trained, does well when left alone, and waits patiently to be released like the polite boy he is. He takes direction well and prefers to keep his people within eyesight, ideally at all times. 🤗
Dog-wise, Max may do fine with a very calm canine roommate. The high-energy, bounce-off-the-walls types are not really his vibe. As for cats, he has been known to be a chaser, but more so the “hey man, wait come back” than anything malicious. A confident, dog-savvy feline who refuses to participate in his Winter Olympic Games may do just fine. Max is also looking for a home with older children or respectful teenagers who understand doggo language 101 and respects his boundaries. He'll do best with a patient family who will help continue building his confidence, set boundaries in place, and understand progress > perfection.
If you are looking for a loyal hound with excellent length-to-leg ratio, Max may be your guy. If you're interested in welcoming Max into your fam, let us know! 💙🤎
