Our Scooter Sunshine.......
Let's recap what we have going on right now here at JaspersKatz:
Kizzy - We are running the test to figure out what is going on with her and her seizures. While we have eliminated a couple of areas, we still have a couple to go. Currently she is doing well with her adjusted meds and has not had any seizures since the day of her visit for her MRI. Currently we are awaiting her results for the metabolic, degenerative disease testing.
Scooter Sunshine - During his exam for his nose bleeding, Dr. Brown confirmed Dr. Yoshi's earlier finding that Scooter did indeed have a heart murmur (Heart murmurs in cats can come and go and can be benign to very severe) The original appointment was for Scooter’s bleeding from his nose, however, before we could move forward with a CT scan to look at his nose, which requires sedation, we need to address his heart issue. With that being said, they were able to do an x-ray of his chest area. Unfortunately, the x-rays came back showing that he has an enlarged heart. Plus the blood work they did, including proBNP, came back showing that he had heart disease. (proBNP, is a hormone produced by the heart muscle when cells are stretched or stressed) We are currently have a EKG (electrocardiogram) with our cardiologist on September 9th.
Harlow- At her initial exam it was discovered that she has a fairly severe heart murmur, chronic rhinitis, arthritis and possible start of IBD. So she is joining Scooter on Sept. 9th to get her EKG so we can figure out what is going on with her heart. We are also working through her chronic rhinitis with antibiotics for secondary bacterial infections, possible corticosteroids for inflammation and supportive care like saline flushes and humidifiers. We are also treating her arthritis with pain relief.
We currently have Russell and Riley who both are taking medicine for their hearts, so adding Scooter and Harlow is not a big deal other than we have to keep tract of their heart with periodic checks with our cardiologist. Each visit is approximately $700-$800 now, so it isn't cheap.
As you can see there is a lot going on here and Cat Mom has her hands full staying on top of these heart guys. Add in all the other kitties that have issues, it is definitely a full time job for her. It is also a strain on the budget as the cost of care for these kitties is triple what a normal kitty here costs. We are only able to care for these kitties with your help, so if you happen to have some extra dollars, we would appreciate a donation of any amount because it all adds up.....
