KIZZY UPDATE.
Just talked to the vet and Cat Daddy is headed to pick her up now. She has been stable all day, YAY.

Labs show we need to increase her phenobarbital, even tho we just did, as she is metabolizing it well. We will also add Keppra to support her until her Phenobarb levels increase.

Her urine was sent out and results can take UP TO 4 weeks for results. It goes to a special lab in Pennsylvania for processing. They also got enough blood from her to run a few more metabolic tests.

**Update #2**
Kizzy has finally stopped have seizures and Cat Mom was able to go visit her. While she is really out of it, Kizzy was able to grumble and growl when CM scratches her, so she is getting more back to normal. She will probably spend the night at emergency which we are trying to avoid as it is SUPER expensive, like $1,000 a day, (yeah that's the cost....) If we have to pick her up, if she improves enough, at 11pm, we will. Hopefully they will be giving us updates throughout the day and as soon as we find out, we will let everyone know.

**UPDATE**
She is at emergency now and they are working to stop her seizures as she continues to have them. Once they get her stabilized, we will know more of what the plan going forward will be.... We are concerned that they won't be able to stop the seizures....❤❤

Kizzy was going in for her blood draw today and sadly she had another seizure on the way there.

Please keep her in your thoughts today as we work through this.....😿😿

This picture of Ferguson was taken shortly after he came to live at JaspersKatz.

Ferguson is one of the 8 CH kitties we care for here. He is on the more mild end of the scale as he can get around without any issues, though he does shake and shimmy as he moves. He cant jump but he can climb stairs. He exhibits most of the CH traits except for the one of going ballistic at the drop of a hat.... 😹😹

For those that don't know what CH is:

Cerebellar Hypoplasia is a condition, not a disease. It will not get worse over time and it may look like it gets better, but it is just the kitty getting used to living with it. It is not fatal or contagious and the kitty can live a full life. The oldest kitty we have had with CH crossed when they were 21 years old. While some modifications are needed to help the CH kitty in their daily lives, it is well worth the reward you get from their love. ❤❤❤

Harlow has started to integrate into the rest of the family. While she still loves Cat Mom lap, she is widening her area she wanders in.

AND she is accepting the other kitties as well.....

Here she crawled in with Bert, not Bert crawling in with her...

Progress....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Our Scooter Sunshine.......

Let's recap what we have going on right now here at JaspersKatz:

Kizzy - We are running the test to figure out what is going on with her and her seizures. While we have eliminated a couple of areas, we still have a couple to go. Currently she is doing well with her adjusted meds and has not had any seizures since the day of her visit for her MRI. Currently we are awaiting her results for the metabolic, degenerative disease testing.

Scooter Sunshine - During his exam for his nose bleeding, Dr. Brown confirmed Dr. Yoshi's earlier finding that Scooter did indeed have a heart murmur (Heart murmurs in cats can come and go and can be benign to very severe) The original appointment was for Scooter’s bleeding from his nose, however, before we could move forward with a CT scan to look at his nose, which requires sedation, we need to address his heart issue. With that being said, they were able to do an x-ray of his chest area. Unfortunately, the x-rays came back showing that he has an enlarged heart. Plus the blood work they did, including proBNP, came back showing that he had heart disease. (proBNP, is a hormone produced by the heart muscle when cells are stretched or stressed) We are currently have a EKG (electrocardiogram) with our cardiologist on September 9th.

Harlow- At her initial exam it was discovered that she has a fairly severe heart murmur, chronic rhinitis, arthritis and possible start of IBD. So she is joining Scooter on Sept. 9th to get her EKG so we can figure out what is going on with her heart. We are also working through her chronic rhinitis with antibiotics for secondary bacterial infections, possible corticosteroids for inflammation and supportive care like saline flushes and humidifiers. We are also treating her arthritis with pain relief.

We currently have Russell and Riley who both are taking medicine for their hearts, so adding Scooter and Harlow is not a big deal other than we have to keep tract of their heart with periodic checks with our cardiologist. Each visit is approximately $700-$800 now, so it isn't cheap.

As you can see there is a lot going on here and Cat Mom has her hands full staying on top of these heart guys. Add in all the other kitties that have issues, it is definitely a full time job for her. It is also a strain on the budget as the cost of care for these kitties is triple what a normal kitty here costs. We are only able to care for these kitties with your help, so if you happen to have some extra dollars, we would appreciate a donation of any amount because it all adds up.....
