So you want a Bulldog…
Here are some basic things all Bulldog owners must know 👉
1️⃣Products:▪️Medicated shampoo that has chlorehexidine▪️Medicated wipes for folds and tail pockets (Clean 1-2X a week) ▪️Nose butter or aquafor to apply weekly▪️Medicated ear flush to clean ears properly weekly.▪️A nice harness so you keep the neck from any stress when leashed.▪️Eye wipes and gel as needed.
💙Be GENTLE and use treats when grooming so it’s not a negative experience.
2️⃣Be EXTREMELY careful taking a bulldog to a groomer. The amount of bulldogs that are killed in the hands of groomers who have no knowledge of the breed is far too high. Use someone very experienced with bulldogs or learn to groom your dog yourself.
3️⃣Bulldogs are not meant to be your outdoorsy companion. Never ever ever gamble on this! Bulldogs overheat easily. Even travel anxiety, or a simple walk can be fatal. Even at 80 degrees it’s risky.
And please… DON’T LEAVE YOUR BULLDOG OUTSIDE.
4️⃣Idiopathic head tremors. They are very common in bulldogs and may alarm you when you aren’t familiar with it. (It looks like an uncontrollable head bobbing) It’s not a medical emergency. A bit of peanut butter in the mouth can do the trick to stop the tremors.
5️⃣Do NOT use any kind of choke chain, electronic pulsing “training” collar, or prong collar on your Bulldog. Bulldogs have very sensitive throats and any stress to the area can be dangerous. (Also just stop using these horrible things no matter what dog it is please. Choose kindness and not fear)
6️⃣Keep some lemon juice in a squeeze bottle in the fridge. It can save a bulldogs life when they are choking from over exertion … squeeze a bit in the back of the throat to break up the saliva, then head to the vet.
7️⃣NEVER take the chance of pneumonia lightly. If your dog is struggling to breathe, has snot, or in general seems to be struggling, DO NOT WAIT, GO TO THE ER! It’s life or death truly when it comes to a bulldog.
8️⃣Bulldogs are not built for swimming. If you have a body of water anywhere near you keep a life-jacket on your dog and watch them closely outside.
9️⃣Have a plan for medical emergencies.
