ADORABLE starved Shih Tzu Riley is ready for her home.
This girl came to us from Baltimore where she had been found as a stray. We were not prepared for how awfully skinny she was OR how darn sweet she is!
This poor girl is only 1 year old and already had so much neglect. But she is in the right hands now and we will not let her down. She is only about 8 lbs and should be at 15 lbs.
She LOVES cuddles.
She LOVES walks in the city.
She LOVES food (and is getting lots of it)
She is great with dogs
She is great with cats
She has not been around kids and will probably be best with kids at least 7 years of age
We were told she's scared of men - but she shows no concern in the home or on the streets and while very shy at first, comes around for treats and once in your home seems as if she's known you for years.
Did we mention she is VERY AFFECTIONATE?
She's working on housebreaking - getting fed 4-5 small meals a day makes her go more than normal. But she does great in a crate and is perfect on leash.
She also has the cutest underbite EVER.
Who can adopt this girl now so she can finally rest and get on with the fabulous life she deserves??
Interested, fill out an application here and email [email protected].
Say hello to Tony, the sweetest hound inside and out. This 50 lb bundle of love hasn’t always had it easy, but you’d never know it. Today, Tony loves hanging with his foster humans and dogs, playing with chew toys, and laying around after a good romp in the yard. He is crate- and house-trained, quiet, affectionate, playful, and charming. He’ll even prop his paw up, waiting for you to come in for a shake and a cuddle.
Please share Tony’s story to help find him a loving home! You can learn more about him and how to adopt Tony today at https://tinyurl.com/43fh58p5. We’d be happy to answer any questions you have about Tony, contact Alana at [email protected]. We are so thankful for the generous anonymous donor who fell in love with Tony and sponsored his adoption fee. Thanks to them Tony comes with a $40 adoption fee. We all hope he’ll find a loving home right away!

We are calling on our community for some help! The abilities to save lives with our dog foster program varies every day. Right now we are operating with 95 dogs in our foster care program. We are working on a situation that needs the attention of our people in the community who would be willing to help a puppy in need!
We are getting more details BUT we are asking our puppy fosters out there to be ready to activate!
There could be 10, 15, 20+ puppies in need of coming up to our organization this upcoming week and we are trying to prepare in advance as much as possible. We are desperate to know WHO can foster a puppy so we can immediately begin pairing you.
*****We were just notified one Mom we are trying to save is actively in labor! We will need a Foster for her and her new babies! ******
After submission we ask that you email our foster dog director at [email protected] with the answers to the below questions. Due to influx of responses- please expect a delay in responses as we are handling these inquiries.
1. Can you pick up your puppies WED- 17th between 5:30-7:00pm at our adoption center in Fairfax
2. Is this your first time fostering?
3. Would you be in a position to take a single, pair, or triple set of puppies. *Puppies younger than 12 weeks we try to keep in pairs to help socially
4. Do you have gender preferences?- If yes please list
5. Anything else particular about your home that I would need to know in regards to pairing?

RAISED IN OUR CARE!!! PUPPIES ready to make this autumn the BEST ever!
Speaking of Ever... Ever and her sisters, Lacie and Willa, lost their mama when they were two weeks old and have enjoyed the love and ministrations of two incredible foster homes since then. They have been getting great socialization with other dogs to round out their experiences!
Tucker is the last of Lolita's babies to find his home. He's on the shier side, but a wonderful companion! His foster is working hard on crate and house training and he's catching on great!
Hagrid, Dobby, and Sirius, Phoenix's last three puppies to find homes want you to know that if you are interested in an active pup, look them up! They are all busy little guys wanting to romp, play and snuggle with you!
When you click on each picture, you'll find a link to each one's website biography, which contains more information about each puppy as well as information concerning how to go about applying to meet them! Let's get these babies into homes so they can enjoy Fall!

Our Mission: To find permanent adoptive homes in the Mid-Atlantic Region for homeless dogs and cats; to reduce the rate of euthanasia of adoptable animals; to support proactive spay/neuter practices; to promote positive and ongoing behavioral training; and to educate the public about how to care for their animals in a humane way.
Homeward Trails Animal Rescue (HT) is a DC area-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of homeless dogs and cats. Founded in 2001, HT works primarily with rural, under-resourced animal shelters in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, and as far away as Mississippi, where animals face euthanasia due to limited space and funds. We run the 10th largest shelter in the state of Virginia, for the number of animals we take in. We have rescued more than 28,000 animals since our inception.
Our animals come from the streets of Puerto Rico where they endure incredibly harsh circumstances, with scarce food and no water, and many suffer from injuries and illnesses that leave their chances of survival slim. The 2020 earthquakes have created even more need for our services. Our animals come from countries like Thailand, South Korea and China where the dog meat trade unleashes horrible abuse on dogs, and cats roam the streets. Our animals come to us from individuals who can no longer care for them.
In 2019, Homeward Trails took over animal control services in Guanica, Puerto Rico, where we provide lifesaving opportunities for dogs and cats, run trap-neuter-release (TNR) projects for street cats, and work to educate the public with the goal of finding sustainable solutions to the overpopulation of animals.
HT relies on the generosity of the local community to further our mission, and corporate partners are critical to our success. Please join us as we work to find homes for homeless dogs and cats in 2020.
