Sharing for the kiddos who are learning some equine first aid this week!

Knowing your horse's normal vital signs is VITAL —pun intended!— to detecting distress and a possible emergency! 🩺

Practice taking your horse's vitals often (T.P.R.: temperature, pulse, respiration rate) so you can get to know what's normal for your equine friends and recognize what is abnormal. If your horse seems a little "off" and his values are outside the normal range, a call to your equine veterinarian is definitely warranted!

The typical ranges for adult horses are as follows:
🌡️Temperature: 99.0-101.5°F
❤️Heart rate: 28-40 beats/minute
🫁Respiration rate: 12-16 breaths/minute

Keep in mind that very hot and humid conditions may cause small variations, so be sure to have a conversation with your horse doctor about what is acceptable and about how to properly assess your horse's vital signs.

1) BH Fajera: Registered half-Arabian (3/4 Arabian, 1/4 Saddlebred), 11 year old, 15 hand mare. Sport horse/dressage type, 3 quality gaits, forward thinker, intermediate+ rider. Lessons can be included, showing opportunities available.

2) Comanche: Barn favorite, 16 year old Spotted Saddle Horse gelding, 15.1 hands, smooth as glass, enjoys playing on the outdoor obstacle course. Stylish enough to do well at the local shows. Introductory lesson required to ensure good fit; weekly lessons can be included as part of lease. Advanced beginner/intermediate recommended but has been ridden by beginners with trainer supervision.

3) Sarah: 15-16 year old Paso mare, 14 hands but wide enough to take up leg. Smooth gaited and canters. Introductory lesson required to ensure good fit; weekly lessons can be included with lease. Intermediate+ rider suggested but has been ridden by beginners with trainer.

4) FS Royal Amin: Want to learn to show Arabian halter, or looking for something to show halter/sport horse in hand this year? 6 year old, 15.2 hand gelding for half-lease, lessons and showing with trainer/barn team.

Weekend fun at the Lazy J Schooling Show.

Getting some questions about it, so doing a post: As of now, we will NOT be hosting an obstacle challenge this year. Conflicts with local show dates made it logistically difficult. We love that so many of you enjoyed it the past couple of years and will try to make something happen for next year!

The Music City Arabian Horse Club open show scheduled for Saturday, May 18, at Ascada Arabians, has been cancelled due to weather. Show organizers made this decision based on the amount of rain forecast for Friday and Saturday morning. Please reach out to Rebekah Fields Hall with questions. Thank you!

A quick 1am update on the first day. Congratulations go out to everybody because I felt like this was not a bad first day of show season 2024.
Congratulations to Olivia and Danzante LRA winning performance halter in a very nice sized class.
Caroline and EF Terific Shoc show to a reserve championship in Arabian Geldings improving every time they went in the ring.
Huge thanks to Keegan Gay leading Reckoning Day to a first place in Arabian stallions ATH.. an excellent job as always. Reckoning Day  also earned a championship in Arabian Stallion halter with me ..all of the team did a wonderful job today and I regret it being so late and not going through more pictures. More to come.
