I'm excited to share my experiences with you! At Happy Acres Dog Training, training is about connecting to your dog verses controlling your dog. Connecting requires you build a relationship with your dog. To build that relationship you need to build trust and when you trust your dog... you will truly enjoy that dog. Building a relationship is where I come in. I use positive reinforcement methods t

hat allow your dogs to trust you. I will teach you how to train your dog to become consistent with the tasks you ask of them and how to connect with them.

You know the drill, bored dogs chew stuff. Shoes, baseboards, the corner of your antique coffee table… Nothing is safe when your pup is bored.

That’s why I put together a free guide called Chews Instead of Shoes—a sanity-saving list of my favorite enrichment chews, tested and approved by Ray, Garth, and Princess Rebel Potamus herself. 👑🐾

Getting up at 5:30, waiting for breakfast at 6:30 and then getting a bully stick to chew on makes for a perfect routine before a morning nap.😂😂 sound up to hear the very deep and relaxed breathing.

Ray's First Day of Rehab 🐾 Senior Dog ACL Injury Recovery Begins!

17/03/2025

It has been a minute! Both my boys are working on recovering from injuries. Not complaining! I am so grateful that I can take the time and energy to help these beautiful lives heal and be strong again... or at least be comfortable. I had a friend say that he wanted to come back as one of my dogs in his next life. 😂 This is getting his "permanent" brace.

This is when Bob asks, “ Have you seen Rebel?”Me: umm, yes.🤣

We call her “the little.” This is a perfect example, as there is no room for her on the bed because her brothers are hogging all the space. But she’s little and she can fit anywhere she wants to.

Check this out! It is a good piece on dog body language regarding fixation.

Fixation 👀‼️
Not as simple as just a locked gaze, and in many ways fixation is ALREADY a reaction.
It just isn't a verbal reaction.
Fixation never leads to anything good for a reactive dog, it is an escalation of emotions and needs to be recognised and acted on.
There are lots of ways to help this, one in particular is a U turn (video in the comments).

How it all began...

“I promise, she will be the best dog ever!” I remember saying this to my husband as we finished reading the child’s version of “Marley and Me”. Both my husband and I were almost in tears after seeing renderings of a very naughty lab and then looking at our then 8 week old yellow lab, Bella, and wondering what we had done.

I had grown up training and showing Shetland Sheepdogs, so I thought how hard could this be? It had only been 10 years since I last had a puppy. My oh my, how things have changed, or maybe how I have changed. I found a training facility, called Seattle Agility Center, that used positive reinforcement methods to train and it was like instantaneous training with Bella. She loved to learn, she loved trying new things, and she loved to please. I wanted everyone to know about this training method! And that is when it really started... I’ve been training dogs professionally for nine years, with another 10 years of showing and training dogs before that. Using positive reinforcement has transformed my perception of dogs and has made training so much fun. I would love to share what I know with you, if you want to train your dog with positive reinforcement methods. Check out my classes at https://www.happyacresdog.com/training/.

I hope to meet you soon!
